For my latest novel I have gone back into the Magic Realism genre. 'The Obscured' is set among the community of the Obscured in contemporary UK and Pakistan. It was influenced by Christopher Priest's 'The Glamour', but seeking to explore the challenges for such people facing 2020s technology.

#BacklistSaturday Today I am going to shine a light on 'Folly' (2020). A psychological thriller set in late 18th Century England. Aspiring Gothic author Clementia Hiscott may have witnessed a murder. Find out what she saw and who stands in the way of her revealing it. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B086CD11Q6

Where are the plans to open the 2020s equivalent of British Restaurants? Where are the plans to provide places where people can wash to reduce the risk of illness and disease? This is all about throwing it back on the public themselves and assuming everyone lives in a place with spare rooms to

store all that they need, even though the 'bedroom tax' has actually worked in completely the opposite direction, reducing the room that millions of ordinary people can have in their homes without facing penalties.

Then there needs to be additional cooking and washing water. Our hallway is going to be full of bottles of water, the bedrooms stacked with tins and toilet rolls. Once again, as with Covid, the government seems to assume everyone lives in 3-bedroom houses rather 4-room flats.

I tried to get a shot but the second-hand price sticker has fused with the cover. Despite me using WD40 it is now removing the lettering from the title, so here is the same image but not taken by myself. What a palaver!

While there are contracts to sign and references to check, I am ecstatic to state that I just accepted a job offer this morning, after being out of work for 4 months and getting to a situation as a 'mature' jobseeker, worried I might not work again. It is incredible what a weight has been lifted!

+1) I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the 60th anniversary walk in 1996 and met former German members of the International Brigades who had fought in the Spanish Civil War against Fascism and still at their age felt it essential to attend this commemoration.

Pleased to say that this afternoon I finished the first draft of 'The House (An Ti | La Maison)' an alternate history detective novel set in the Grand Duchy of Brittany in 1974 and 1993. #author #writing

The battle in Cable Street is the best known element of the day's events but incidents occurred all across that part of East London. Victoria Park on the border of what is now Tower Hamlets and Hackney was occupied by anti-Fascists. A tram was turned over as a barricade on Mile End Road. 2/2

Any other #author with an account on Amazon been compelled to install WhatsApp on their phone as the only way they will let you into your publishing account? I have had mine since 2012 but now have had to spend an age installing an app I do not want on my phone, one which is trying to access

all my contacts, photos, recordings, etc., simply so I can see whether my books are selling or not. No other option, it was this or be denied access to my own records. This is getting so tedious, so tiring!

#chillis #pickled I know a lot of chilli pickling has been going on recently, so I thought I would add my wife's output from today, all grown and pickled in our flat, in North-East Scotland, not the most salubrious location for chilli growing.

#99p/99c Pre-Order price - for 1 more day! If you're quick you might still manage to buy a 99p #kindle eBook FRAYING SKEINS, Bk 3 Silver Sampler Series, a saga set in Victorian Scotland, launches 28th Aug 2026. mybook.to/FSSSS

What a day! Our oven stopped working because the element broke down tripping all sockets in the flat. They will come to repair on Monday. Then water dropped away because of a burst mains at 05.00, fortunately restored. Now all the fire alarms in the flat upstairs have gone off.

Being 'high tech' ones they are all interlinked, have no 'off button' and the 10-year life battery is embedded and cannot be removed. They are all inter-linked. The tenant up there is home but cannot get them to switch off. He was not even cooking when they tripped, so it seems like it was a glitch!

Today I would like to big up my fantasy novel from 2015, 'Crimson Bodies of Naugail'. I have never been happy with the front cover, but it is a good read and was probably more innovative back then than in today's marketplace. It has a map too. www.amazon.com/dp/B017ET6B7U

I had my first #AI interview for a job today. I guess this is the future. Ironically it told me it would detect if I copied in text from elsewhere especially if it was AI-generated. I even got feedback from the system about an hour later on how well I had performed. It will be interesting to see how

un/successful this approach is and whether the company actually gets the kind of people it wants or needs. Given companies were already complaining that they were not getting suitable applicants as many were being filtered out by online application processes before a human even saw them, I wonder

#Writers #WritingCommunity Has anyone heard anything good or bad about crewfiction.com and their giveaways? They have approached me about some of my old titles, but given how many online scams I have encountered aimed at authors, I am naturally cautious and just wanted to know any info on them.

Pleased to announce I have now completed writing my 61st book (since 1988), 'Killings at the Source', a #noirtasy (i.e. murder mystery set in a fantasy context) novel. I will now set it aside for a few months before editing. I hope to self-publish it later this year or early in 2027.
