In any discussion of what Must Read Magazines is doing, we need to ensure that we're also continuing to talk about Alfred Hitchcock and Ellery Queen Mystery Magazines. It's five magazines that are affected under MRM. Don't leave them out. Rising tides, and all that!

Victoria Strauss@victoriastrauss.com

"If the new owners want to right MRM’s sinking ship, they need to offer fair contracts and be open with what is going on....If Must Read Magazines doesn’t do this, their company’s legacy will be simple: They’ll have destroyed three of the world’s most famous and beloved SF/F magazines."

To be clear, Jason Sanford does mention AHMM and EQMM in his blog post. Let's keep doing that! Five magazines! I like seeing all writers standing together.

Escher wasn't particularly known or appreciated during his lifetime, so the spate of current exhibitions might have shocked him. But his art lends itself well to visual illusions and special effects, which do particularly well with a public that wants selfies: file770.com/m-c-escher-b...

Happy Moon Festival! We had friends over to make moon cakes with us. It's easy to spot the one made by the Argentinian 🥟

Atarashii Gakko! were incredible. Full of energy, dancing all over the place, and their new album has a ton of yokai imagery, which I was unsurprisingly really into!

What was the best concert you went to this summer? The performers I wanted to see didn’t tour this summer, and the ones who did were charging too much for tickets.

I had a student once address an email to me with "Hell Arendse." The student was mortified. Incidentally, it was Halloween and I thought it was hysterical.

Everyone's making fun of this but I for one would love to see Beowulf wander through the movie, absolutely pointlessly. He could play the role of Mercutio.

Robert Eggers is set to direct a new film adaptation of ‘ROMEO AND JULIET’. The film will feature the actors speaking in Olde English. (Source: www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie...)

In this post-WorldCon daze, I suddenly realized that another year of being a Film Festival Judge had come to an end! Thank you to everyone who came out, watched the films and supported all the artists. Over 150 people attended our opening selection and it was a great start to a great festival.

One of the lesser-known fantastical creatures I talked about last week at @laworldcon.bsky.social was the bonnacon. It appears in medieval bestiaries as a bull-like creature with horns curved back on themselves and therefore useless to protect itself. Instead, it expels flaming poop in defense.

I know I said that you better bring a shield for protection but even the shield looks disgusted here.

So obviously bonnacon are the best and probably best left alone. Nobody wants to be the recipient of butt flames or caustic poop.

If you're hunting a bonnacon, you better have a shield ready to protect yourself otherwise you're in big trouble.

Back to Seattle post WorldCon and the mountain was out to greet us. I'm all fired up about writing — and also in desperate need of sleep.
