Notably, in 2005, sex-same intercourse had only been legal in TX for two years! I was a junior in high school in TX when SCOTUS decided on Lawrence v. Texas. But most importantly: the dial moves! They’re going after trans kids just like they once went after gay kids. And trans adults.

Nobody can be manipulated by the president if they refuse to be manipulated. If you don't understand by now that Donald Trump is narcissistic mendacious racist grifter, there's really nothing to say to you. Good luck in life.

This is a common conservative fallacy - I remember it being used back in the '90s. They know how polls and statistics work. Their internal polls are telling them much the same story. They are - as usual - lying. We the People should be ready to defend the election results, in word and action.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Mike Johnson: "When I'm in these big arenas, I ask for hands -- 'Show me your hand if you've answered a poll in the last six months.' There will be like three hands among 300 people. I'm telling you, these polls are off. All of them."

It's like a lot of things... my favorite is that the media obsessed over the Clinton Foundation for months - and found nothing. Meanwhile, Trump U got a $25 million fraud judgment against them. The vast majority of media is owned by the billionaire class. They didn't buy it just for funsies.

It's the same with authoritarians and bullies everywhere - if they see weakness, they will exploit it. If you punch them in the nose (metaphorically of course, because I would never advocate for violence), they will back down. Resist oppression like your life depends on it. Eventually, it will.

There are people, even some trans people, who think that we can give up sports to appease bigots. That if we give up on sports, this all goes away. That is a lie. I have reported on this for years, and EVERY state that passed a sports ban as a moderate compromise has gone on to pass worse.

Jonagold was the best apple on the market back when I could get them - it's been years now. Don't know what I'd do without Cosmic Crisp. Take my chances with Pinks, I guess. It's Fall though, and the apples on the trees are marvelous, and I have high hopes for Bellflowers pretty soon.

Abdul El-Sayed@abdulelsayed.bsky.social

Fall is here. So we can finally talk about this serious topic... Jonagold vs. Honeycrisp apples.

It's not just their illegal wealth - you don't become a billionaire except through dishonesty. At this point (and since Reagan) they're just writing the laws to benefit themselves. We need tax investigations, trust busting, false claims enforcement... We need the rule of law.

Matt Ortega@mattortega.com

The looting of the country by Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, the Trump sons, and their orbit of aides and friends is directly tied to *your* inability to afford housing, health care, child care, and more. It's their illegal wealth versus our ability to live.

Fascism is the new freedom Oppression is the new liberty Cruelty is the new kindness Lies are the new truths Up is the new down Conservative is the new punk...

is being conservative the new “punk rock”? of course not you fuckin dip shit

I have a specifically designated bottle of scotch. For when the republic is restored. Which we will know when we see the wealthy and powerful in orange, with silver bracelets. May that day come soon.

Seth Abramson@sethabramson.bsky.social

The number of Americans who apparently have a *specifically designated* bottle of champagne somewhere in their home is absolutely shocking

I think Vivek's biggest problem is that the trolls who won't be appalled by this garbage tend to also be gutter racists and won't want to elevate him however much he pleads, "I'm one of you! Really!" He may be among the most evil of US public figures; he's got my vote for the most pathetic.

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

like vance, ramaswamy is a hateful, resentful orc of a human being, and the reason i think this will hurt him politically — where this stuff didn’t hurt trump — is that ramaswamy, like vance, is also profoundly unlikeable. he has no charm or charisma or anything. just a dipshit.

BREAKING: SCOTUS rejects Trump admin's request to allow it to end gender-affirming medical care in prisons — a significant, if tentative, rejection of one of the admin's most extreme anti-trans arguments. Only Thomas and Alito noted they would have granted the stay. More to come: www.lawdork.com

Remember back when Bill Clinton (who was not president at the time) met with Loretta Lynch in an airplane and all hell broke loose in the media? I think the media's dual standards are there to encourage us to have goldfish memories. Memory will drive you guano up a wall.

hmmmm this doesn’t sound right

Freud sat there, looking at him over his glasses, his eyes getting wider and wider. Suddenly, and with an uncharacteristic small noise from the back of his mouth, he started furiously writing in his note pad...

JD Vance on the economy: "You don't turn the Titanic around overnight"

Got the new Percy Jackson series going on with wife and a child. It's a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be. Kid actors are very young looking, but very compelling. I could practically see the wheels turning in Anabeth's head right from the start. And it won't benefit a vile bigot.

I love this time of the year. It's cooled off, and I have a nice box of apples in the garage, waiting for the press... Bellflowers coming soon, and maybe some other varieties. People in the community know that I'm an apple fanatic, and they sometimes bring me some. Makes good cider.

Our racist piece of garbage president is really outdoing himself now, isn't he? Not gonna quote him, don't want to make you sick. Just wanted to check in and say that I absolutely loathe that man, and everyone who supports him. And everyone who doesn't support him because he's not racist enough.

Now is the time to care about everyone, not “once we win” The time to care about everyone is always always always now

I have honestly felt like a conspiracy theorist. I mean, it's seemed pretty apparent to me that the corporate media has had a right-wing slant for at least 35 years. But that couldn't be - right? I mean, it's not like the reporters are all Republicans, right?

I don't know why some people think that attacks on bodily autonomy, the right to medical privacy and for parents (in consultation with doctors and children) to make medical decisions are fringe issues. Why do you think it ok for government to be involved in medical decisions?

sharks44@sharks44.bsky.social

I've been arguing this point with the trans community for the past 3 days on this very site. The Ts I've been dealing with are angry, petty individuals who DEMAND that the Ds prioritize their issue over all else. I get their angst but this election is bigger than just one issue. Don't be selfish.

Civil rights and the rule of law need to be very high priorities. Certain minority groups are likely to benefit from that. I don't see that as a problem.

This was well done. Not as bloody as some of us would like. But probably very effective to many ordinary Americans.

Abdul El-Sayed@abdulelsayed.bsky.social

This is Tommy. Tommy had a question about my allegiances. Listen to the end to hear about his.

I keep seeing good words from this guy.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Ossoff: "The crisis we must meet is deeper than this presidency. Trump's rise is proof that business as usual has failed, that our politics, sickened by corruption, is failing the American public and compromising our national integrity. And that the hour is late to fix what's broken."

Absolutely not. I want to exact retribution on the whole GOP for the next 50 years, until people are saying, "Yes, we know they're evil, but when will it be enough?" I want to see them exposed and disgraced, for the MAGA hat to be looked at with horror, a sign of evil. I want to see justice done.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Mike Johnson threatens us with a good time: "They want to exact retribution on the Trump administration every hour of every day for the next two years"

"I'm not defending Putin..." he says, while defending Putin.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Ron Johnson blames US for Putin invading Ukraine: "The way we treated Russia after we won the Cold War, how we pushed them. I'm not defending Putin, but we said we were not gonna move NATO one inch to the east. We brought it right to their doorstep basically. What did we think Putin was gonna do?"

Would you end fascism if it meant throwing some marginalized group under the bus? Would you do it if you were in that marginalized group? In the words of Mona Lisa Vito - it's a bullshit question. If you allow the oppression of some, you're not ending fascism - you're just limiting its targets.

And that every human being should be permitted and supported in their quest to be themselves, to live, to be free, to seek happiness. If we wish to be decent, ethical people - that's how we should view the world. There is no question of abandoning *anyone*.

But if we can only manage to be pragmatic It leads to the same conclusion. We need to not encourage nor empower anyone with fascist tendencies. That much has become crystal clear now. So much, that I can only assume that ideas to the contrary were generated in bad faith.

Ultimately, we need to limit the ability of those who want to acquire and exercise power over people to do that. A concession to those who most want to use power over people is the very last thing we need to combat fascism. In fact, it's the opposite of what we need.

Ethically, as human beings, we all should be horrified and appalled at the idea of abandoning *anyone* to fascism. Each of us *should* be willing to die alone on this hill - that every human being is an irreplaceable work of art of infinite value.

So, you don't mind empowering [some people] to oppress [some people]. It doesn't end there. People who *want* to oppress will never be satisfied with oppressing [some people]. They will never be satisfied with the exercise of some power over some people. They want more power over more people.

And they will use what power they are given to attain more power. That's what they've been doing for the past several decades. It's not the protection of the groups of [some people] that is the ultimate goal. Although that is a very important goal.

The nation is broken. The politicians don't work for us - they work for themselves and for corporations. And it's been like that for decades. Almost everyone in the nation is an illness or an accident away from losing everything. And national policies make illness and accident more likely.

We need a change. Not just a surface change, blue bunting for red. We need to address the deep corruption in our public offices that allows this to happen. We need to address the deep corruption in the largest, most wealthy corporations that drives this.

Health care is just one example. There's broad agreement on firearm regulation, environmental protection, support for foreign allies, civil rights, and political corruption. Our politicians have marched us steadfastly in the wrong direction for decades now.
