How scared is Danielle Smith of the separatists?
She is requiring them to sign a loyalty out that they can't speak about separatism anymore!
But...
In claiming that she'll require them to follow the code of conduct or else...
She's violating the code of conduct.

Naheed Nenshi on the immigration questions: "I am happy to have a conversation on numbers. I am not happy to have a conversation on the dignity of newcomers, and I'm not happy to have people voting on whether other people should have human rights."
"proof of citizenship to vote" will essentially turn into voter suppression as every "voter ID" initiative always has. Very disappointed. There is 0 evidence that the current voter registration system is letting non-citizens vote.
What does this remain/separatism polling look like if you display by electoral district (population) instead of by land mass? It shows significantly less visual support for separatism in Alberta than if the ED boundaries map is used.
Did you know there is currently a blockage on a logging operation in Alberta's Crowsnest Pass?
Almost no media coverage.
But they are through their third week of stopping the cuts.

There are many reasons to reject these questions... But there’s a simpler reason to say “no.” The questions follow a familiar pattern of scapegoating that we should all reject.
Canada has a history of discrimination; don't fall for it in Alberta

If those of you in other provinces ever wonder how Alberta ended up in the situation it now faces, this post is authored by one of Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's most trusted advisors.
"the Government of Alberta is doing to its cities EXACTLY what they SAY Canada does to this province and investors: interfering in subordinate jurisdiction, creating regulatory uncertainty and chilling investment."
yup yup yup uh huh no doubt no doubt
Whoa. @haleaziz.bsky.social has the scoop on a truly insane plan to use some military training ships for deportations, with people presumably shackled or locked in cells for days at a time as they transit to Central and South America.
Each journey would be staggeringly expensive — and dangerous.
I don't know why the property rights angle of this isn't popular on the Canadian right. I should be able to develop my property as I see fit, subject to only highly justifiable restrictions - not the default being you shall only build what was there before because other people may not like it
During the 2025 municipal election, zoning reform to permit multi-family everywhere was a clear issue. Edmontonians re-elected a council that supported the reform. And now the provincial govt, which has 0 MLAs from Edmonton, is overruling council. No democracy in my backyard, apparently.
In hindsight, it's clear that from a social license perspective, Edmonton and Calgary over-reached going from largely single-family + secondary suite zoning straight to 4-plexes (+ 4 secondary suites). And even I can acknowledge some developments have serious design flaws that should've been caught.
For instance, the 4 rear garages built on my block where there isn't enough room for bins to be rolled in and out around the garages, therefore all 12 bins sit in front of the overhead doors in the lane and those are now storage garages with vehicles street parked.

While I hate it, Calgarians voted in a new anti-reform council, which repealed the reform. At least it's an exercise in democracy, though it remains poor policy.
The sprawl cabal’s final victory. Look for Edmonton’s gentle density infill policy, and its historic repeal of all parking minimums - to both be undone by the province. Even in red states the pattern is normally opposite - states forcing munis to allow more housing. AB is somehow worse
Guess we'll see what the details are tomorrow, but it appears the UCP gov't has found another way to gut the autonomy of city councils. There's not much left for them to conquer. The disrespect to local voters is real. #yeg#ableg
90 minutes it took on hold + during the call, after several attempts to get into the hold queue, and even then they could only book us as a group 4 + group of 2 instead of group of 6. Sigh. But was able to book 3 generations for Oct 21.
Ugh, the typical ABVAX nonsense. Can't book more than 1 person on-line, can't book under under 12 kids on-line at all. Under 12 shots not available at pharmacies, so have to book with AHS, and of course 811 is overloaded so you can't even get into the hold queue. This is for appointments after Oct19
And there it is - McLean wouldn't be talking about 26 Ave SW like this if the upcoming legislation wasn't going to target it. Note the Mayor's comment at the end that every bike lane project for the last decade could be added up and wouldn't cost as much as a single suburban interchange #yycbike
No doubt that McLean is plugged into what the upcoming legislation will actually do. Targeting 26 Ave SW is heartless given that we've had a fatality only recently and no doubt many close calls, and that THERE ARE ALREADY BIKE LANES so further impact to traffic and parking is slim to none.

Which taxes are they gonna get a break on to make up for this? Because they pay all the same taxes as everyone else who gets access to healthcare without a fee.
Sen. Susan Collins helped steer millions in federal defense contracts to Navatek, whose CEO illegally funneled thousands of dollars to her campaign.
The FBI sought to launch a probe and was eyeing Collins and other lawmakers.

When confronted by current bad economic data showing things getting worse, Republicans blame Biden.
When confronted with polls showing dissatisfaction, they say the polls are wrong.
When confronted with election results of voter revolts, they say the elections are rigged.
Water Not Coal has released a copy of a letter with concerns about Elections Alberta, including...
- 2 directors being fired without cause
- Multiple changes to how their petition was being verified mid process
- A service manager & 4 supervisors quitting with concerns the process was compromised.
Alberta: where an expired passport won't keep you from driving, but an expired driver's license means you can't get chemo.
This policy debacle isn't over yet. As I said months ago, they will eventually need to scrap it.

I’m just gonna call it in advance - even if the 12 Ave #yycbike cycle track survives the upcoming UCP purge, there will be, at best, some bike staples where it passes right by the new Flames arena. Maybe not even that.
There's a concept in international relations, specifically power transition theory, called a "revisionist state." Basically, the idea is that a revisionist state will tear down the whole international state system because they think it's unfair to them personally. Sound familiar?
