I do computer stuff and I'm on a scavenger hunt to take photos of every US flag on the MBTA. Make things you care enough to make.

"Paul Hollywood" sounds like the antagonist in a film starring Bruce Willis. The fact that he's a man who judges bread and cakes is one of Britain's greatest contributions to absurdism. It's almost Dadaist in its construction.

This is the kind of energy we need more of in tech right now to be honest. It's a bit naive in places. Very human throughout.

another politically forward talk from andrew kelley. very very well done. i highly recommend this whether or not you consider yourself technically inclined. a better world is possible as long as we are willing to make it.

in 2015 when you saw a low image quality photo you could say "what did you shoot this on a potato" and now everyone's like "oh what kind of potato is that I love how the blacks get crushed and the details go all soft it's so vintage. is that like a Russet or"

Technology advice: The backplate on the Sun™ 450 MHz UltraSPARC™-II Module interferes with the plastic airflow guide in the Ultra 2, but it can be removed and replaced with any copper heatsinks you have on hand that are less than ~3mm tall.

I strongly believe in the breadth and influence of independent art, to grant us oblique angles on the world and ourselves. But also every indie game is somewhere on this spectrum:

have you seen the new supply chain vuln? don't update tubu. it's literally on heebee. they got poodee's deps. they infiltrated dippy. roll back weeno. disable scripts in ~/.gumpyrc. it's in poob. do not install poob. do not update poob. uninstall poob right now. poob has it in for you.

Nearly there Assembly 👌 But I feel like there's at least one person avoiding the Revolution Drive entrance because the flag doesn't line up with the windows. #mbta

Y'ever hit a 26 year old panic? No disrespect to NetBSD, because I'm doing something really dumb right now, but it's hilarious to me that this computer was brought down by sending one ☝️ IPv6 packet

Y'know after a couple years of looking like a crazy person trying to find the US flags the #MBTA has tucked away in dark corners and at the top of weird atriums, I feel like Revere Beach 🟦 is making this one too easy

Glad to see people talking about Penn Jillette. The 2024 interview was done by me. I found him to be a refreshingly reflective, self-critical individual who has remained curious and willing to evolve.

Good on Penn Jillette. Having to come to terms with your entire political identity and philosophy being wrong is not easy and most people could never do it.

OTD 1980: Publication of the Digital/Intel/Xerox specification for "The Ethernet", Version 1.0. 10Mbps then, 800Gbps now. I'm running 2.5Gbps (with P.O.E.) throughout my house.

Also, the fact that it can serve content over HTTP is really underrated. This computer was how I learned that export controls in the 90s made it impossible to include SSL support on operating systems distributed outside of the US.

I don't know who was wondering if you can do a processor swap on late 90s Toshiba laptops, but it turns out, yes! You can! I'm holding the Pentium II this guy shipped with ✨(with its goofy MMC-1 cartridge form factor)

The next time somebody in the webdev community gets angry at me for supporting Google Amp or Firefox's reader mode, I'm sending them this. Almost every recipe blog online is like this now.

I had a very fun night of trying to brute force an unsolved problem in mathematics, the Magic Square of Squares. I leaped into the code and got 4 hours into optimizing it... Before realizing my search space was in the nonillions, and there's some geometric proof that it's impossible. Ah well.

You are up to date.
