its insane how not many people are talking about how republicans with the help of several moderate democrats are building out the largest abusive medical conversion therapy operation in modern american history

The Democrats backsliding on trans rights are not only cowards and moral failures who would throw their voters and supports to the wolves for a taste of power, but also they have the political instincts of a trash can. They are pathetic and worthy of all your scorn.

New: Former Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan says that Republicans anti-trans ads are "just not resonating" in an interview with @texasmonthly.bsky.social. Wrote about that + how Republicans took the wrong lessons from "Kamala is For They/Them." www.chron.com/culture/arti...

New story! A man gets an assignment to save a lake and uncovers a secret. Also, there's a fish-twink. smokeandmold.net/issue-14-fal...

Have a working hypothesis that you can tell which modern day biologists would have supported eugenics back in the early 1900s based on the way they currently view transness

been doing this thing where i write my little thoughts onto paper and sometimes i send those papers to people i care about and other times that just sit there and no one reads them but me

Can't believe a narcissistic vaccine denialist who lives purely online would be a reactionary. You think you know people.

Wow….wild to hear Taylor say she’s glad Elon took over Twitter and that it’s better than ever. I mean, the unconstrained growth of the far right on there? Musk’s thumb seemingly on the algorithm’s scale during elections? The impact on democracy?

I thought the thing a lot of people didn't like about the nebulous woke 1 era, for lack of a better term, was the cynical deployment of identity. But thinking about the depressing trans M4A discourse yesterday, it seems like that's the only thing centrists liked about it. That's the only thing left.

I'm worried that conservatives will remove the environmental protections for the lake I like to swim in by abusing the EPA, so my solution is that we shouldn't have any federal environmental laws. The private market will ensure we never have pollution at my lake. Subscribe to my substack.

Does anyone in this discussion understand how Medicare and federalism work in the US

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

To be honest, I've struggled with this. I do not like the govt having a single lever by which they can turn off all HRT in the US. The current system in the US disperses the levers into a LOT of different places, which is why it's been almost impossible for Trump to eliminate it entirely.

It's honestly crazy to talk yourself into the same position as an antigovernment libertarian over a misunderstanding of the mechanisms of federal and state power

Pre-order the story collection I'm in! My story is about a really normal cis woman. It's called The Woman in the Tight Pink Shorts.

Driving a car in a city should feel like the equivalent of having a loaded gun pointed in your face. Driving a bike and walking and taking transit should feel like really good sex or taking a hot shower after a week of camping in the woods during winter or like holding a gun to a driver's face.

Anyways a bunch of cool people including someone in my family all died within like 48 hours so I'm going to pretend that turning Seattle in to Oslo can fix that or something

I wrote this essay more than three years ago while Gessen was still playing defense for the NYT's anti trans reporting and scolding trans women for daring to disagree with them so I'm not really impressed actually. www.autostraddle.com/overheating-...

Jesse Thorn@jessethorn.bsky.social

M. Gessen has written a truly extraordinary piece about the "soft fascism" faced by transgender people in America, and by trans people in Kansas particularly. Beautifully written and reported, deeply humane. I really hope you'll read it. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/13/o...

One of the reasons many cities are becoming more homogenous and interchangable and boring, especially on the West Coast, is because tech people do not support or see value in the arts. They don't go to the theater or give to local art museums, unlike other rich people.

everything really is transgender now

New research reveals this ecosystem works, and how pickup artists (PUA) influencers are using Meta's products, including its smart glasses and social media platforms, to perpetuate a culture of harassment against women. @samleecole.bsky.social reports. Read now: www.404media.co/meta-ray-ban...

besides the point i guess but wild animals do have shit on their butts. then they clean their shitty butts with their tongues.

a lot of what the right does nowadays is create an emotional support system for bigots. bigotry will offend and alienate people in your life, so the right looks provides a counterweight that lavishes you with praise.
