RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

born with the world at his fingertips and made nothing of himself but a disgusting roadkill-eating moron. scum of the fucking earth.

one thing the people targeting Arday did very successfully was bait the left into a discussion of whether Arday plagiarized (he did) rather than a discussion of the value of DEI.

This post is unavailable.

their goal was always to point at Arday’s plagiarism and lies and say “this is the natural output of DEI.” the fact that so many people lept to his defense probably helped their cause.

If the golem becomes ensorcelled, the coven may need to assume operational burdens related to ensorcellation and the golem’s fel status. This may cost extra mana points.

some good local political drama: there's a crowded mayoral race in a nearby town, and one local business owner put out signs opposing a local councilwoman who's running. the signs get stolen, but it turns out he put airtags in them and they were traced to the councilwoman herself.

i should add that there’s a wrinkle: she originally said she asked the owner for permission to remove the signs, which everyone assumed was a lie. but now it’s rumored that the signs may have been on a third person’s property and she’s actually innocent.

several people have replied saying they miss being bored. ok? put your phone down and go sit in an empty room. what are you talking about

buddy you could enter this analogy into a worst analogies competition

Because giving advice is way easier than following through on it. You can see a benefit but not take the steps to get it because it's hard. Our brains are now accustomed to distracting ourselves because it's so easy and available. It's like asking why people don't just work out and eat healthier.

the most obviously fake mandela effect is the fruit of the loom logo. there was never a cornucopia, you’re thinking of the thanksgiving page of coloring books from when you were a kid you stupid idiot

i also think that “boredom” now, with the internet in our pockets, is a much more tolerable thing than it was a few decades ago

yeah great that’s fine but there are plenty of situations when there’s simply nothing to do and it’s nice to have the internet

Peek@peek.bsky.social

oh I have to disagree on this one. I think it’s extremely important for people (especially children) to be bored and to have fo come up with ways to relieve boredom that are not Scrolling

The prayer for relief is insane. They want the court to preemptively announce that it will block the state from certifying the election result, but only if the incumbent Dan Sullivan loses.

Trump makes an indescribable sound effect: "I'd say 90% of the reason I took the governor-- EUHHH"

there’s no middle ground position on this. either musk is forcibly rooted out of government infrastructure or every war proceeds at the whims and dictates of a generational buffoon

the idea that empathy is dangerous has been permeating right-wing spaces for a while, but it's not an actual element of their ideology as much as it's a defense mechanism against confronting the reality of their cruelty

This post is unavailable.

the right doesn't reject empathy entirely, they selectively deploy it. when a white person is murdered by an immigrant, for example, they will call upon your empathy. but empathy directed at their enemies is cast aside as toxic.

Matt Gabriele@profgabriele.com

are those separate things though? that rejection of empathy/ embrace of cruelty is part of their intellectual worldview. goes along with the "how dare my kids reject me" thing because it's about domination.

“i pay tax before, but still pay tax now?” We spoke with dozens of half-literate morons about the machinations of local governance. Here’s what they’re saying.

Politico@politico.com

“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

there are plenty of completely valid and constitutional reasons for Congress to ask execs about their editorial decisions

for me the answer is definitely a watch, but which one i’m not sure. would lean toward some rare Cartier, like this monopusher chronograph

obviously the line been useful and frivolous is grey, the one rule I’ll establish is that “vacation home in beautiful locale” doesn’t count as frivolous imo. we should be talking about some dumbass bullshit.

pet peeve of mine that you see in all sorts of contexts: posing questions that "need to be answered" that have been answered many times. this just mires the debate in an endless loop where one side has to argue and the other just asks the same questions over and over.

Steve Vladeck@stevevladeck.bsky.social

Calls for expanding #SCOTUS are entirely (and increasingly) understandable. But as today's "One First" explains, there are at least four difficult questions that those who support expansion should have to answer—especially as compared to other possible reforms: www.stevevladeck.com/p/bonus-257-...

it's true fwiw that there aren't perfect answers for every question posed here. but there's a question that court expansion CAN answer that other reforms can't: what are you going to do about the 6 right-wing ideologues on the Court right now?

yeah it’s improper for someone not actually admitted to the bar to call themselves a lawyer but Trump’s attorneys are spitting directly in the faces of federal judges every day without consequence so I can see why she’d think she can get away with it

The New York Times@nytimes.com

President Trump’s new press secretary, Katie Zacharia, describes herself as a lawyer, and the president called her “an attorney.” The New York Times was unable to find a law license for her. In an interview, she said the confusion is the result of a misunderstanding. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/14/u...

doing a complete 180 every time i see a new response in the kelly clarkson/brooklyn home goods store beef. they’re both doing a really good job of arguing.

yeah fundamentally being like “here’s a cheaper alternative” when it’s a 15 thousand dollar mechanical bird feels very reasonable and it’s just bad luck to run into the one person in the world willing and able to buy it

"They redirected me to a 2k mechanical bird like I was some Poor" is so funny

funniest part of this saga is people from the area chiming in like “everyone in park slope knows the bird is not for sale.”
