Some of the best conversations at #PyConZA2026 will start in the Makers Room. 🛠️ Bring something you’ve built or tinkered with, set it up, and see who wanders over to ask how it works. It’s open all conference and will be locked safely after hours.

@techconnectify.bsky.social it seems like the trains in Germany do not wish to learn about heat pump based water heaters

Fuck migraines. I've been unable to move for most of the day and haven't been able to keep meds down for long enough for them to work completely.

PSA: for users of extension/irc in OpenClaw: Your IRC channel may stop working. We have just shut down the #openclaw channel and a related channel. We normally don't announce closures, but since these were topical and will break things, we're making an exception. Please boost.

Hey everyone! While we're pleased with the reception of our IRCv3 upgrades, we realize that some people like older clients and don't want to upgrade. We are currently testing a way for older clients to benefit from our new IRCv3 features. For more info, please visit libera.chat/news/downgra...

Apparently I'm now an expert now in things I know almost nothing about according to copilot. Can these things please die now. adragon.bearblog.dev/when-copilot...

how to tell if you are a cylon

stackwarpattack.com well. That looks unfriendly.

Watching people claim that accuracy gets better simply because they made the error bars on the choices larger drives me up the wall. And I've now had to do it twice in various "you can estimate better if you just" meetings at work. Because we can't just stick with what works apparently.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

VOY S02E21 is absolutely fantastic. I did not remember it _at all_ and being able to watch it "for the first time" was an absolute treat.

Thank you to all who responded to our previous post and our request for financial help. We have since received the legal advice regarding the OSA, and the news is good. If you want to know more, we have written a new post about our understanding of the advice we got at libera.chat/news/advised

TLDR; The PSF has made the decision to put our community and our shared diversity, equity, and inclusion values ahead of seeking $1.5M in new revenue. Please read and share. pyfound.blogspot.com/2025/10/NSF-... 🧵

Decided to start a Voyager rewatch; forgot a lot about just how good the show is

Had a blast at @za.pycon.org this year. Looking forward to more!

Had the delightful experience today of being told a pile of metric pages in grafana were useless, followed by an outage that was clearly understandable through the aforementioned pages. Did I take great pleasure in using them to describe issues towards the person that hated them? Absolutely.

At our last MGM, we approved paying for legal advice about the UK's Online Safety Act. While we can afford this bill… it is just one bill. Laws like this are multiplying. So as awkward as this is, we are asking for help. See libera.chat/news/advice for more context.

14 years and he finally made it all the way to the farlands.

Having a job that makes time vanish because you're enjoying it is great. Just uh. Remember to eat and drink water on occasion

Print your own #NASAWebb! These downloadable files allow you to print each component individually on a 3D printer to produce a full, detailed 3D model of the telescope: webbtelescope.pub/4kuLuxo 🔭 🧪

Well done Hannover. 10/10 displays

This already looks great; the performance improvements are a fantastic extra touch

@annoyedobrien.bsky.social the station computer seems to be constantly beeping at me. Is this your doing?

Every June I dig this up: hachyderm.io/@nedbat/1105...

Operations: turn off this alarm it's too noisy Us: that's a really bad idea. Operations: we can monitor this ourselves! The alarms make our KPIs look bad! Us: why don't we fix the actual problem? Operations: just turn it off Under a month later .... 16 hour unnoticed outage! I hate being right.

So I spent today just cleaning up code, making things nicer to work in. I think it's the best time writing software for work I've had in a few weeks.

@annoyedobrien.bsky.social chief, there's something up with the monitors down on the Promenade. They all show an earth sky and say something about "Installing Microsoft Windows ME"?

If you are reading this post, you have benefited from OSUOSL. Projects supported by them power today's Internet architecture. We need organizations that rely on the Internet to get on this page. Ask your employer to arrange an ongoing sponsorship now. 🕖🕘🕚 libera.chat/news/osuosl-... #OSUOSL

Libera.Chat would not be what we are today, if not for OSL. OSL has been an integral part of open source and open culture project support for a long time. Nonprofits, businesses, and governments, and you depend on projects OSL sponsors. OSL is worth saving. osuosl.org/blog/osl-fut... #osuosl

Listen most carefully to those whose voice is seldom heard, is downplayed or suppressed. The quietest words may be the most important for you to hear.

You know you're having an interesting day when you celebrate seeing a firewall reject log

@annoyedobrien.bsky.social Why does every third light on the promenade now have a latinum deposit slot to turn it on?

Its the Trans Day of Visibility

Stand against oppressors. Stand against those who would exploit you, and turn you against each other for their own gain. Do not turn a blind eye to oppression and iniquity in your own backyard, but extend solidarity for all fighting for honor and a righteous glory.

Today has been interesting. I have gotten to the point of "let's throw a ramdisk at it" in performance benches for a build machine

The way swapping hemispheres messes with your ambient time sense based on the amount of light outside will never cease to amaze me. I just had to do a double take at my watch

And back to work for the year. So far the standing order is hurry up and wait. This will be exhausting in its boring-ness

Waiting on aircraft boarding just reminds me of how ... Terribly inefficient this is. Overnight flights suck already and this just makes it comically worse.

Deutsche Bahn, for once, was on time today. Of course this is also the day I head back home and wished that I had some more time with my partner.
