Good on you for sticking up for your community. I'd encourage everyone able to donate to do so; giving up such a large grant is significant loss and there's still lots of work to be done!

Thank you 👍 It's very frustrating that some groups can act as though programming as a field "isn't political" at the same time that questions as basic as who gets encouraged to be in the field at all are actively becoming politicised.

as a condition of funding, we were asked to affirm that we wouldn’t undertake any diversity, equity, and inclusion work, whether or not we used the government funds to do so. The PSF simply couldn’t agree to that statement,

In the end, it wasn’t a hard decision for the PSF to put our community and our values first, but it does mean we lost out on this large funding source. Donations and sponsorships will help us fill the gap, so we can continue supporting the Python ecosystem and living our values.

It hasn't always been perfect, but Python recognized early that we do our best work together, and that has a lot of non-technical implications. Very proud of the PSF for making this decision and also publicizing it like this.

Yeah this is cool and all but you still haven’t addressed the allegations that you keep a little fucked up gollum as an office sex slave

I’m sorry to read your many months of work here went to nought over attached strings, I really hope that industry sponsors will step up to fill in the funding gap to address these “structural vulnerabilities in Python and PyPI” 😞 I thought at first glance this was a distress post about a shortfall

Thanks Louis; I hope so, too. On top of everything else, it's very striking to me that they put their anti-diversity values ahead of letting us do basic security work that would've benefited everyone.

Thank you so much for sticking to your mission statement, especially as I am someone who falls under the categories currently being targeted by my government (Can I just add though that they lowballed you? Python's worth way more to the world than that, c'mon now!)

this sounds awful as i feel yall deserve that money (hell, when i was being notified, it was with "python being based?" and i went "to my understanding, python was already based"), but im ngl, reading why it's been rejected had me like

i can’t believe how shortsighted the USG was being here; PyPI supply chain security work benefits everyone. i just want to say thank you for sticking to your principles. turning down so much money can’t have been easy, but it was the right thing to do.
