Reintro time, given recent changes! I'm Anna, a French-raised, UK-based game designer and writer currently focusing on getting Coffee Talk Tokyo out there โ˜•๐Ÿฅณ I erratically post about games, words, books, bunnies, travel pics, and (when I boil over) the appalling state of human rights.

Any time we hear "AI did this and this", it's not proof programs are becoming sentient, but that the humans deploying said AI did this (which is generally failing to deploy proper sandboxing measures to prevent an AI from going against security) It's not the AI that's rogue, it's the company

my belief is that at the end of the day, great games are made by groups of people who have high trust with each other & can fluidly execute a shared vision. which is a small part of why these layoffs are so devastating- it's not just about jobs, it's about these "trust structures" being torn apart.

Such a lovely review of Coffee Talk Tokyo... It's a joy to see people (this reviewer, others, players) engaging with the game and connecting with the story. What weird and beautiful magic, when you release something into the world and people... get it? www.gamezebo.com/reviews/coff...

Just out of two chill and cosy days at #AdventureX, and as much as the industry can sometimes be a chaotic, difficult place, the community is second to none. There is hope yet, and it lies with the people earnestly using their voices to create games and share their stories, despite everything.

Going through my grandmother's documents, and I found this Japanese movie magazine from the 60s that has her on the cover (amongst family pictures, some of them as old as the 1920s...) My little former-historian soul is kind of blown away.

I think Fallen London is my new way to keep myself engaged while I'm working rn. I just set a timer for every 10 minutes (around how long it takes to regen an action) and it gives me progress markers to show how long I've been working. It's easy to reset the timer and save them until I need a break.

Some of the most remarkable lost artefacts from the ancient world were the titanic wrecks of the Nemi ships, built for a Roman emperor. In their first-century heyday they held gardens, palaces and baths in a floating wonderland. But barely a decade after their recovery, they were lost forever.

Good people of BookSky, I come begging for reading recs. Let's say someone is by the sea, determined to do nothing except be lazy on the beach, and is looking for a novel that's very Good and Well-Written, but also generally sunny and happy and a page-turner. Anything comes to mind?

Of a mind to save it and send it over every time I come across someone who needs to read it...

This, from the Quakers, is a pretty good example of how to resist pressure from bigot lobbying groups. Effectively โ€œwe legally can allow trans people to use the loo, we morally should, and we tried it and nothing bad happenedโ€

And this is why hereditary privilege should not be a thing - certainly not monarchy, but also not inherited wealth. A 100% inheritance tax looking better by the minute...

Me five minutes ago: I'm not going to read the Prince Andrew biography, so I'll just read this article about it Me after reading these two paragraphs: LMAO GOOD GOD

You guys, I believe this will be on the iPlayer eventually, and if you have even a passing interest in classical music, you should give it a watch. An absolutely epic rendition of a gorgeous work!

Guys guys! After literal months, the books, they are all in the shelves ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ“š And they all fit! (We don't ask how, we just give praise to the bookshelf gods. We also don't ask about the remaining pockets of mess.)

Anna Winterstein@awstein.bsky.social

Trying to organise books on the shelves. Do we have a book problem? Maybe. I don't know. Why do you ask? There's no need to attack me like this.

This concept was introduced to me as "run the dishwasher twice" and was an important part of my executive functioning recovery as well as my path to self-acceptance.

mucho texto i know but i wanted to write a lil thing about how u can treat yourself nice!!

This one isn't strictly a sketch - it took me a fair bit longer than 1h - but yay, colours! Another drawme subreddit prompt that turned out really fun. There is a person out there who legit attached this number of balloons to her hair...

I'll say it once and I'll say it again. If you think artists are just "naturally talented", you're deeply wrong. The only difference between you and us is that we kept trying when it didn't come out like we hoped. You can always make art yourself. There's no bad time to start, you can start now.

Evergreen, and applicable to game design as well: go out there, look at other artforms, experience things, live life. That's how you get inspiration and knowledge to make the really cool things.

Unsolicited Writing Advice: no. 12675: "Write what you know" does NOT mean "Stop learning." The more you learn, the more you read, the more you experience, the more people you meet with different lives to yours, the more you're going to know, and that knowledge will make you a better writer.

The fact that the world leaders are just letting this happen is such a grim thought. Everything we learned in history books about people not knowing? Nah. People know, but they either can't or won't do anything.

The point when change is rushing around you is the point to act with integrity and compassion for the best. They have not won just because they appear to be winning now. There is no stability. There is no long-term to their plan.

You guys, writer's block is absolute ass. Why is it that some days I have entire word cascades pouring out of my fingers, and other days it's like squeezing a dry lemon for rotten juice? (The latter somehow more frequent when there is a deadline. Ugh.)
