Equal amounts of passion, chill, sass, optimism and get off my lawn. A great day involves lots of music, good reading and a cup of coffee with way too much vanilla creamer in it. Follows politics so is nevertrump.

This cruelty has no need but cruelty. Haiti remains deeply dangerous; a country in the throes of anarchy. Hundreds of thousands of people are SAFE. They are safe. They are safe here and the nation has decided to make them unsafe. We are embarking on a tragedy and we cannot look away. We cannot.

Yael Schacher@yaelschacher.bsky.social

So many immigrants I've interviewed break down about this. "Monsanto Maler was one of several Haitian immigrants who traveled from Springfield for a check in...after an ankle monitor was attached to him, Maler was seen collapsing to the ground and crying." www.springfieldnewssun.com/local/hundre...

Funny how after every SCOTUS ruling striking down some protection from government abuse, the officials those protections restrained — cops, prosecutors, Republican state electeds — immediately start acting in the precise manner SCOTUS assured us they no longer do.

Had to put my beautiful girl down Friday. Heidi was 11 and everyday we had a discussion about if she was the best dog. We agreed that she indeed was the best dog.

We don’t talk enough about how weird—just weird!—it is that so many GOP and admin officials spend so much time just standing around the Oval watching Trump do stuff. All of these people have jobs! Sometimes important ones! But just being the awkward backdrop of the Mad King’s rantings matters more.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

listen to these House Republicans laugh at Trump's joke

Logic

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Lieu: "Undocumented immigrants want nothing to do with the govt! To vote, you have to first register. How many undocumented immigrants are gonna go, 'Yes, I'm gonna give all my information to the govt that's maybe trying to deport me. No way!' This is a problem that doesn't exist."

Gen. Grynkewich: "What I've observed over the course of studying air power in history is that any time you attack a civilian population, you usually end up finding that it just hardens their resolve."

How many stories and exploitation of people are going to be in this SOTU? Fine stories and some heroism, but allowing the exploitation is becoming gross. And boring.

They aren’t spending billions of dollars on detention camps to leave them empty. They either aren’t planning on deporting people, or they intend to fill the camps with someone else.

Everything needs to be the Epstein Files. There is no other issue until people are thrown in jail for raping and abusing children. They will ramp up killing US citizens by ICE agents to deflect and distract. But we must keep on the Epstein Files. We want names.

The system is breaking. Attorneys either quit, get fired or get overwhelmed and break down.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Fox 9 MN reporter Paul Blume: "SHOCKING FEDERAL COURT MOMENT: DOJ attorney Julie Le, 'The system sucks, this job sucks' to Judge Jerry Blackwell who pressed her on why so many court orders are being ignored by ICE/Trump admin. She asked to be held in contempt just so she could get 24 hours of sleep"

This is not normal. It is not how our system was designed to function. It's pure political theater.

Adam Klasfeld@klasfeldreports.com

Let's speak plainly. In a legitimate criminal cases, political appointees don't have to first hollow out U.S. Attorney offices of objecting career prosecutors with integrity; federal judges don't kill the cases at the cradle, and the government doesn't fight tooth and nail to revive them.

I’ve never heard of a “law enforcement” agency putting an officer who just killed someone back on the street under 24 hours. And that’s because all shootings are treated as homicides pending investigation. This is as clear a sign as you’ll get that DHS personnel enjoy practical immunity from murder.

WOW on Pretti's denial of medical treatment "I informed the ICE agents that I am a physician, and I asked to assess the victim. At first, the ICE agents wouldn't let me through. ... But none of the ICE agents who were near the victim were performing CPR, ... None of the agents were helping him."

We have for now the same kaleidoscopic jumble as in the aftermath of every such episode. But real clarity emerges when look at last two weeks: 1. again a US citizen committing no crime 2. again a murderous illegal onslaught by ICE 3. again, instantaneous pack of lies by Bovino & Co

I hit my limit watching this and broke down and cried. This was so chaotic and confusing for this poor woman that it was impossible for her to satisfy them.

amanda moore 🐢@noturtlesoup17.bsky.social

Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.

Smith: I think who should be accountable for this is Donald Trump. These records exist because, in the case of the senators, Donald Trump directed his co-conspirators to call these people to further delay the proceedings. He chose to do that.

According to the US Coast Guard, the year prior to Trump changing our policy to summary execution, only 21% of the vessels interdicted by them off the coast of Venezuela suspected of trafficking drugs had drugs on board. The other 79% had nothing. But now we just kill them all.

Every single congressional Democrat needs to be out there, right now, insisting that Pete Hegseth resign right now and announcing that he will be held accountable for committing war crimes. If you do not demand accountability here and now, they will only become more emboldened.

Exclusive: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave an order to “kill everybody” in the first strike on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean. After two men survived, the mission commander ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions, according to two sources.

ICE admits that up to 50% of arrests in its Chicago raids are "collateral.” These aren't statistics. They are parents taken from their children, neighbors taken from our communities. When does a "collateral" U.S. citizen child's trauma matter? This isn't law enforcement; it's a campaign of terror.

Just so I'm clear: TV host says we should kill every homeless person? No big deal TV host says the right must "go to war" with the left? Pfft. TV host says the government is cracking down on critics? Well, the government cracks down on him for the criticism. Free speech, everyone.

I plan to post this ABC News supercut video of Trump calling Harris and Democrats "fascists" (and "communists"!) everytime I see a Republican on TV whining about Trump being called a "fascist" by the left. Oh, the hypocrisy! Oh, the gaslighting!

I hope the Epstein survivors do compile a list and release every single fucking name, whether Democrat or Republican. Everybody should be held accountable for being a part of these disgusting crimes.

The Supreme Court — specifically conservatives— have said for centuries that the federal government has no obligation to or role in protecting American citizens from private violence. But suddenly, we can do that provided that it is under military occupation? It’s despotism wrapped in hypocrisy.

This is something similar to what I have talked about having someone do. Everytime you see someone arrested and put in the back of a vehicle, follow it!

Christopher Webb@cwebbonline.com

This is so important… Sharon has been tracking license plates on cars driven by ICE agents, and she’s finding they don’t match the vehicles. In other words, ICE is using secret, illegal tactics—just like we suspected. REMINDER: the DMV is not a federal agency. @governor.ca.gov 🧵

A statue or monument is considered something of honor. You can acknowledge history without giving everything a place of honor.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Hegseth on restoring a Confederate monument in Arlington cemetery: "We recognize our history. We don't erase it. We don't follow the woke lemmings off the cliff that want to tear down statues ... we're proud of our history."

What if TX gerrymandered the districts and still lose seats because even too many in TX think this is a shitty move? Even some of the soft support trumpers might be upset enough with the economy etc by then.

The Supreme Court derives its power from its legitimacy. It earns its legitimacy by explaining its decisions. The endless stream of wholly unexplained orders in favor of the Trump administration is not just indefensible—it's a threat to the court's own long-term power. This reeks of illegitimacy.

Steve Vladeck@stevevladeck.bsky.social

Since April 4, #SCOTUS has issued 15 rulings on 17 emergency applications filed by Trump (three birthright citizenship apps were consolidated). It has granted relief to Trump ... in all 15 rulings. It has written majority opinions in only 3. Today's order is the 7th with no explanation *at all.*

"America First" means paying the people who refuse to do the jobs that need doing to arrest the people who are doing them. Every ICE Agent and prison guard could be out building houses or harvesting food, but they would rather kidnap and abuse the people doing the honest work they won't do.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez@aoc.bsky.social

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.
