SocArXiv now has a limit of two papers per week. If authors submit more than that we assume they are LLM-generated and reject them all. Normal humans who need to upload a batch of papers, which sometimes happens, must make arrangements. Also today, ArXiv set a two papers per month limit.

I will talk about using user-centric tracking data in health communication research. Mostly a summary of what @elena-link.bsky.social and me have learnt in past projects and a short glimpse into what we are currently working on. Presentation is here: userpage.fu-berlin.de/bachlm83/met...

State of research funding: I am not even able to get a seat in an online info meeting on a grant program. How likely is it that I would get a grant?

Herzlichen Dank an alle Beteiligten! dhd-blog.org?p=24183

What are we even doing?

🚨Update: Our analysis of global APC expenditure has now been expanded to cover more publishers (7 -> 14) and more years (2019-2025). We estimate $15B in APCs paid over seven years, $3.7B in 2025 alone. Elsevier crosses the $1B threshold by itself in 2025. arxiv.org/abs/2608.16322 #ScholComm

Not everyone wants to become an academic, actually

forget the thing everyone in your field knows and no one else does. what's something you think that everyone else in your field would find shocking, and people outside your field wouldn't find surprising at all?

Wer bzw. wessen Expertise zum Thema #genAI wird in der deutschen Printmedien Berichterstattung referiert? Dieser Frage geht unser kürzlich veröffentlichtes Paper nach. Lest gerne mal rein! #WissKomm

Who dominates the public discourse on #ChatGPT and co? Tabea Lüders, Nikolai Promies, @leidecker-sandmann.bsky.social & Markus Lehmkuhl propose a conceptual framework for public actors’ expertise on #genAI and apply it to German print media. doi.org/10.5771/2192...

@gles.bsky.social has implemented data donations, I did not know this. Nice :)

There are some (non ICA) Comm journals offering Registered Reports: - European Journal of Health Comm (@ejhc.bsky.social) - Communication Research Reports - Computational Communication Research (@computationalcommunication.org) - Frontiers in Communication See: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

I could be missing some, but is @computationalcommunication.org the only comm-specific journal to have fully endorsed RRs?

This is a really cool study

1/ New @Nature! We study how powerful institutions shape the information environment for LLMs. Commercial LLM training is opaque, so we trace a path from state-coordinated media -> training data -> model responses.

Are you a Comm scholar and want to push #openscience in our field? The @icahdq.bsky.social committee "Open Access Open Scholarship", which I'm chairing, is currently looking for a new member. Interested? Then reach out and I'm happy to share more information!

This is a very good paper and you should all read it. However, to this part, I want to reply with Arthur Spirling: "Open generative AI models are a way forward for science" (doi.org/10.1038/d415...). Seriously, please don't default to sending students and other researchers to closed models.

AJPS article from @kenbenoit.bsky.social, Scott de Marchi, Conor Laver, Michael Laver, and Jinshuai Ma on using LLMs to analyse political texts. 🧵 1/8 Social science research requires reliable extraction of information from texts to identify authors' preferences on various policies and issues.

love it.

From the peer review: "What the paper actually shows is that there exists a system which can produce a mediocre workshop paper with limited human intervention ... This is very impressive in itself." www.nature.com/articles/s41...
