The whole universe was in a hot, dense state... then nearly 14 billion years ago, expansion started... WAIT!

Astronomers developed a simulation, called Lumina, that offers one of the most detailed visualizations yet of what was happening at the dawn of the universe. Take a look. nyti.ms/4ko29Fo

Wow it seems like all I ever do on microblogging sites anymore is bitch about stuff. I see that @YouTube has decided 20 minute long preroll ads which are AI narrated stories and not even ads are what it should be putting at the front of every video all of a sudden. I predict that'll last... a day?

I see in a recent release that YouTube for Android has started cold launching into playing a clip it thinks I will be interested in. The program SHALL NOT do this.

Just upgraded to a new model of cell phone for the first time in about a decade. The old one was an LG v20 which would only run Android 8 and all of my applications summarily quit working on that release. The new one is a Samsung X cover 6 Pro ruggedized phone...

So far, I'm having a good time with the new one and with Android 16, and even my ADW Launcher2 would still run, without which I would be bereft, and the only thing that was troubling me was that I was trying to dabble in NFC for payment. And I got some NFC Badges and it wouldn't read those either.

And as it turns out the people who tell you that the NFC antenna was moved inside the chassis, from being in the battery, on the Xcover pro 6, are lying sacks. My slightly upgraded though not twice as big replacement battery did not say NFC on it and that was the problem.

What a bummer. Even though Github notes suggest it's been fixed, ConnectBot on Android 16 (on my spandy-old Xcover6 Pro) uses a non monospace font in monospace, lets you select or install a font, but still ignores those. Sorry Kenny; not marrying Github to report it's still broken.

Well, Senator Kelly overstates the case just a touch. SAVE itself does not *require everyone* to reregister. It merely makes registering much harder, so that when -- as a separate process -- the GOP forces states to over-purge their rolls, it's hard to get back in time. Process Matters.

Good. Cause, by all accounts, if he does that, he essentially guarantees a Democratic trifecta -- and a pretty deep one at that -- in 26 and 28.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth would not rule out the possibility that American ground troops will be sent into Iran or articulate what the Trump administration’s exit strategy will be as the Pentagon wages a massive campaign to eliminate Tehran’s arsenal.

Pre-emptive strike: Among the lies Trump will spend 2 hours telling tonight, ones about voting insecurity are the most dangerous, and you should pretty much assume the opposite of everything he says.

Tonight’s State of the Union address will likely feature false claims about voter fraud. Here’s what you need to know: bit.ly/46mnHe6

WaPo: Trump aides struggle with how to spend $500B more on military. It can now be revealed... that I am an entire branch of the US Military...

REMINDER: Today is Giving Tuesday. If you gotta non-profit you love, send them a sawbuck. Or more. If you don't, send it to Wikipedia, Ballotpedia or The Internet Archive.

@tk.gg Should I expect YouTube live urls to work in the grid? I've tried a couple, and it seems to get all the YT chrome populated into the pane, title and all, but then it just spins. Is a YT stream too far from what the grid wrapper wants to hand to the browser to work?

Well, I've been very happy with my AfterShokz headset, until the cap just popped off one earpiece, and I learned that *they won't repair it* (or even just sell me a replacement Little Plastic Cap). My recommendation now is "buy the $25 Temu knock off, people, not theirs."

@tk.gg Just started digging back into MythTV, and in the current world, IPTV and the github project which led me to you. And I love nearly everything about Grid, but I have 3 minor RFEs: 1) Bright yellow box follows the audio 2) Ability to put audio back to sleep 3) Zoom FS vid to aud - HotkeyF

I've gotten dropped into a PowerPoint project, and I'm exceedingly disheartened with Libre Impress, which -- apparently, even in v25 -- just can't do about half the very basic things I need done reasonably. #styles #boxes #masterpages #refresh

The White House Peace Vigil, widely considered the longest continuous act of political protest in U.S. history, was dismantled by federal law enforcement Thursday night after its more than 40-years of standing.

Yeah, this won't be D's shutting down the government, it will be R's, who are abdicating their responsibilities. Great that you're throwing in with the R's there, though, WaPo.

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Democrats are demanding that at least some cuts to Obamacare be reversed in exchange for their support of a funding bill, while Republicans are daring Democrats to risk shutting down the government over the issue.

Carlos Turcios, a Tarrant County GOP exec board member and writer for the right wing Dallas Express, is an organizer of an upcoming Charlie Kirk vigil. He was a former TPUSA chapter leader and made intolerant posts in the group's private chatroom. He wants to deport students who don't mourn Kirk.

So we should give President Bartlet the same amout of credit for the state of the country as President Obama, then? Do I have it right?

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

this from my piece on charlie kirk is probably the most important takeaway if you want to know why bad faith, right-wing voices in media are treated as just another set of peers

Hopefully, Democrats won't cave, and instead stick the Republicans with the consequences of their actions.
