I had to go on Twitter to confirm this was real because Ship Awesome Games In A Weekend having a hand with six fingers was so on the nose I was about to pass out
This shit just writes itself at this point. Just the name "Epic AI MegaJam" is a joke that best describes what is going on with these companies.

The second part is: why do we tend to characterize Lovecraft's racism as pathological? And that's because in 1975, that's how L. Sprague de Camp characterized it in the first widely-published biography of Lovecraft. De Camp made a post of posthumously assigning neuroses to a lot of dead people.

This is actually a two-part question, though most folks don't realize it. The first part is relatively easily answered: by the standards of his time, Lovecraft's individual prejudices (white supremacy, nativism, antisemitism, homophobia, etc.) were relatively common. That doesn't make them okay.
One question I’m genuinely asking is, Was HPL a bigot BY THE STANDARDS OF HIS TIME, or was he something more, a genuinely pathological xenophobe?

Why do we keep on doing this? Praising a 'small core team' for a game with 1100+ people in the credits is incredibly misleading. This PR narrative hurts, hides the massive shadow workforce of outsourced developers and testers, and sets impossible standards for actual indie teams.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer was made by a core team of 75 people. "What we wanted to do was keep that core small, smaller than perhaps you might have done in the past, and scale capacity and capability with what we call distributed development." https://bit.ly/4hT02qg
