All we asked for was an actually functional robot vacuum.

Raw Story@rawstory.com

Some major U.S. banks are finding AI agents inside customer accounts, logged in with the customers’ own credentials, Axios reports. Many banks can’t tell whether an agent is doing what its user asked or acting on its own, as “Black October” trends over a week of cybersecurity scares.

Like oh hey, 10% chance we accidentally unleashed the terminator. Sorry! But is there even a 1% chance you get flying cars and a working roomba? No there is not.

Might take all your jobs and before that empty your bank accounts. Who’s to say! But a robot that can clean your kitchen? That’s insane. We’ve got to prioritize the killing efficiency.

No spoilers but .. how do you think it goes in a world where humankind increasingly relies for their every need on technology they can no longer understand or fix? (This is fiction, of course. From 1909.)

Rebecca Ingber@becingber.bsky.social

In 1909 E.M. Forster wrote a short story, a warning about a world in which humans would cease to understand their own technological creations. It’s a quick read; here’s the PDF. (Apropos of nothing … )

The universal view of experts, @becingber.bsky.social explains, is that the Trump administration's killings at sea are murder under domestic law, extrajudicial killings under international law, and given their systematic nature, may well be crimes against humanity.

I don’t know of a single expert who can defend the legality of these boat strikes. Today marks the one anniversary of the first of what is now 227 murders by the U.S. Govt.

Chris Hayes@chrislhayes.bsky.social

I don’t think there’s really even a colorable argument that this isn’t mass murder. theintercept.com/2026/09/02/m...

“No pretense of normality, no artificial distinction between policy and military matters, and no lawyer’s justification can relieve our senior military leaders from their oath, the burdens of their conscience, or of the judgment of the men and women they lead, the American people and history.”

...that violates international law and that could well turn out to be a massive mafia-style shakedown scheme to benefit the anti-democratic forces in Venezuela and the US, the president's friends and supporters, possibly the president and his family?

...but we don't know where the money's going, how it is going to benefit the US, if it is going to benefit the US, who's privately going to benefit, what side deals have been struck with the corrupt leaders of their country or ours, & we are supposed to celebrate this act of aggression and theft...

David Rothkopf@djrothkopf.bsky.social

So, let me get this straight, the US illegally attacks a country, kidnaps its president, threatens its government with massive military force, gets them to hand over to US control a huge portion of their national assets, hails the billions it has already brought in and promises billions more...

Also quite possibly the best piece I’ve yet read on the toll this Administration has imposed on the civil servants serving it — a toll the country is going to pay for years to come.

This is devastating and beautifully done. Essential reading.

Nolan’s Odyssey on international law: There is a straight line from the perfidy at Troy to the suitors’ contempt for “Zeus’s law”—a fundamental breakdown in shared norms and language that prompts the crumbling of the world order. (Spoiler: the protagonists are themselves the menace they fear.)

The war with Iran is expanding to new fronts. @bcfinucane.bsky.social and I explore a longstanding tension between the traditional law of naval warfare and the UN Charter. -- Historically largely theoretical, but recent attacks on vessels flagged to third states are bringing it to a boiling point.

"The U.S. military’s enforcement of the ongoing naval blockade of Iran may have now resulted in fresh violations of the U.N. Charter against four entirely different countries." @bcfinucane.bsky.social(Brian Finucane) and @becingber.bsky.social(Rebecca Ingber) write:

The war on international law didn’t start with Trump. It’s been long in coming — and largely successful. My latest on what’s at stake, how we got here, and how we might start to rebuild:
