Agree pretty hard with this. There should be a self-maintained appliance for this that is open-source.

This would be a great time for someone with good security chops to start a password manager that pledges to - be cross platform - support basic power features (passkeys, TOTP) - not get in bed with fascists

right wing media is in hysterics (DOXXING!) over the NYC DOF releasing the names of people who own property. The problem is this data - via ACRIS & the DOF tax bill website - has been public for decades. All they did was provide it in bulk in excel. Take a deep breath, @nypost.com

Speaking as someone who works in the medical IT field, and as a patient who has to deal with them - I must say, the worst possible application of AI here is in insurance company phone trees. It's already stressful enough to call your ins co, do we really need to deal w/chat bots when getting care?

Deep blue Williamsburg, Brooklyn is the last place you would expect Trump support, but over the smooth sounds of live Polka music you can hear whispers around McCarren Park that it's the Democrats' fault you can't bring your emotional support Emu into restaurants anymore.

So, in launching a huge bombing campaign on Iran they apparently didn't plan for: - Who takes over; - Interceptor shortages from sustained drone retaliation; - How to defend US bases in the region; - Threats to ships in the Strait of Hormuz; and - How to evacuate Americans with airspace closed.

Wizardry: Bane of the Cosmic Forge (I even drew a bitmap copy of the spell words you needed to unlock it) Wizardry 8 I miss well thought out real turn-based combat

Name a videogame you've put 500 hours into.

One of these days I need to figure out how to do something good with the giant NYC property database I built. I have multiple dwelling registrations, property taxes, mortgages, violations, and tax abatements going back decades.

The two faulty PDF redactions are perfect evidence that the DOJ used an LLM to redact the epstein documents. In this one (posted by Brad) it mis-id's SDNY as a person's initials and in the other it mis-identified sentences about epstein's activities. bsky.app/profile/kath... Classic hallucinations

Kathryn Tewson@kathryntewson.bsky.social

Betcha a shiny nickel this is because they told their LLM to redact all the initials used to identify minor victims and so it also redacted S.D.N.Y

Which raises the both terrifying and mortifying possibility that DOJ officials uploaded the full unredacted documents to the public (who wants to bet FREE) ChatGPT web interface. Seems bad

The other example is the copy-and-paste error. No software designed for redacting would make that mistake but ChatGPT _absolutely_ would. You can just imagine the prompt: "Remove all mentions of the names or initials of victims of sexual abuse from these documents"

Am I a weirdo for not giving a shit about my phone? I never logged into it, I export my contacts, factory reset, and then re-import my contacts regularly. I don't back anything up to the cloud and actually could care less about the content on it. I've installed all of FOUR apps, no google play...

linux is always an option, folks. Ubuntu is quite stable and easy to use these days

The reason this isn't going away is because the US is home to far more survivors of childhood sexual trauma than anyone wants to admit or who have been steeping in silence, shame, anger and quiet isolation. They identify with those victims in ways they sometimes barely realize and they are PISSED.

If I ever saw software that I worked on used in this way, not sure I would know how to feel honestly.

Of course open source software has been used in war before, but seeing ArduPilot Mission Planner being used to blow up Russian strategic bombers is still wild.

I no longer use the NYC bike lanes. When Bloomberg designed them there were no amazon electric vehicles, citibikes, or uber eats. It's safer for everyone if I ride in the lanes with cars
