the humanities are not going to survive the next decade as a going concern (meaning, disciplines with hundreds or thousands of full-time employed scholars). if the disciplines themselves are to survive, institutions/publishers/conferences need to significantly shift resources and labor models!

The elections are on next Tuesday, and so much is at stake, including the soul of the Democratic Party when it comes to transgender people. I am asking you to leave a very small number of races blank in which a Democrat has embraced extreme anti-trans hate. I make my case here.

I go back and forth on whether the ruling classes are cynically trying to instrumentalise a voter base who's departed from reality or if they themselves have departed from reality
A fun reminder of who Franziska Giffey is and what she stands for: asked about the new Berlin government's plans to extend voting rights to non-EU foreigners after five years of living here, she said "the shocking images from France should warn us" against doing so.

i’ve always wanted to ask Franzi the Bianca Del Rio question: “What do you do successfully? Quickly.”
As a historian, you want to go beyond individuals and look at the broader structural trends that produce political outcomes. But sometimes you have to conclude that some people are just particularly bad at politics.
Franzi when the SPD falls below the 5% threshold to enter federal parliament on her watch: “Well the voters have given us a Denkzettel, and the answers are to be found in the Mitte. I plan to continue as leader, of course,”
The federal SPD is considering making Franziska Giffey, who has spent the past five years losing, in succession, her federal ministry, her doctor title due to plagiarism allegations, her position as mayor, her spot on the party list, and her seat in state parliament, its new leader.
