A reminder, because it is almost that time of year: More children are killed by cars on Halloween than any other day of the year, by far. www.vox.com/future-perfe... If you're a parent, I hope you'll do what you can to keep kids safe. If you're driving on Saturday, PLEASE exercise extra caution.

The epidatatools #Rstats package lets you search for and pull data from the BLS API find_bls() searches more than 8 million series across 33 BLS programs, so you (or your AI agent) can quickly find the series IDs you need

Apropos of claims being made on the other site about minimum wage effects on jobs. I encourage you to look at our work on the own-wage elasticity (OWE). Most studies suggest effects that are either positive or small negative, where magnitudes are economically interpretable. 1/

Even if you've never been a union member, the attacks on unions have cost you money. The typical worker would be earning $5,000 more a year if unions were as strong today as they were five decades ago

also incredible we're only learning this because Oregon State brought it up to fight its women's basketball players' union bid, arguing that <checks notes> bringing a tiger on a football field is, uh .... <checks notes again> "what it looks like when an athletics program runs a university"

I knew but still am amazed at how bad these numbers are, 10th percentile having a worse time of it than peak 10% inflation in 2022.

Huge finding. ICE activity was NOT correlated with immigrant density. It WAS correlated with Black and brown neighborhoods. Shocked, shocked.

Aaron Sojourner@aaronsojourner.org

Not more in neighborhoods with more foreign born or more non-citizens. Instead, more where more Hispanics and people of color.

The 2025 American Community Survey should have come out today. But it has been delayed because of unusual political encroachment at Census. ACS drives business and policy decisions, especially in local communities, and is the primary input to Census’s immigration estimates.
