“That’s actually not your job. Your job is not to design the lessons because, in fact, that’s really hard. And takes a lot of years of trial and error. Your job is to deliver the lessons and focus on the teaching and the students who are in front of you.” –Emily Hanford Disagree. Emphatically.

A whirlwind of labsites at the Colegio Americano de Torreón. From kindest to seniors, we saw that #mllscando when educators design the conditions for language learning as part of #pbl.

Finished up an incredible 3 days of learning at the Colegio Americano de Torreón. We explored the literacy and language of #pbl and ways to design for our #mlls.

Talking about the word “reconciliation” with my students today: Kid: “So… people stole the land and then said sorry with some land knowledge-mant but they didn’t actually give the land back? ‘Cuz when I took A’s squishy you made me say sorry AND give it back.”

If you know someone in public education: please send them a loving and uplifting message. If you ARE someone in public education: you are loved. You are needed. You are doing amazing and important work in an impossible situation. Thank you for your service.

Loved getting to join Colegio Americano de Torréon this week on Zoom for an incredible morning of learning. 🥰 Getting to bring together my love of #mll research and #pbl 🥰 Cannot wait to meet them in person in October! #multilingualecosystem

✨ Creating inclusive environments isn’t quick or easy. It’s a moral imperative grounded in equity and human rights, and we must treat it with urgency. #LeadInclusion #UDL #InclusiveEd #EdLeaders #EduSky

It’s been busy this month and I forgot to share some good news here. I’m excited to be joining the faculty @endicottinternational as part of there M.Ed Program. Looking forward to meeting my future students as we explore assessment and #MLLs

English -only policies are grounding in xenophobia, anti-immigrant rhetori, and monolingual bias….not brain science or well-being.

I had the pleasure of working with Nishimachi International School last week as we explored our students’ multilingual practices and #translanguaging. Such thoughtful questions. Such commitment to understanding and serving kids. Thank you for a morning full of learning, laughter, and love.

Part of coaching teachers is about de-centering yourself and your own practice. It’s about centering kids and their learning, while walking alongside a teacher as they grow in their craftmanship. Teachers deserve this space to rumble and grow. They don’t care how good you were. #coachingmatters

“I love raising a bilingual tween” I tell myself as my son screams “no me gusta the criticism!” at me

📊 Poor grading practices shut doors for #students, and it disproportionately harms students who don't play the game of #school well, regardless of how well they #learn. #LeadInclusion #EdLeaders #Teachers #UDL #SBLchat #TG2Chat #atassessment #EduSky

The CAST UDL Guidelines™ 3.0 graphic organizer is now available in 24 languages, from Arabic to Welsh. If you teach in a language other than English, there is a good chance a colleague somewhere in the world has already translated this framework for you. https://pulse.ly/hjynqvfxx5

Fall cohorts start up this month! Are you tired of one-and-done professional developments that are exciting yet don't gain traction in your school? These professional ecosystems might be the just-in-time professional learning you are looking for. #MLLEcosystemProject

Last night the back to school anxiety dream involved having to run a student club I had no interest in running. What I wouldn’t give for a proper Pedro Pascal dream.

9 years! Doing the work I love. With clients who are committed to building a better world for our #mlls. Let’s continue to grow and learn together as we transform the #multilingualecosystems so that our #mlls deserve.

Today I presented at a conference that mostly consisted of teachers just starting or early in their careers. The hope of a new teacher is special. How do we protect it while inviting criticality? I am energized by being surrounded by these educators today.

It's always good to come home. I'll be facilitating a workshop at the Humanizing and Culturally Affirming Teacher Summer Institute at the University of Arizona. I'll be presenting The Heart, The Head, The Hands: Translanguaging Pedagogies in Multilingual Ecosystems. #HCAT #translanguaging

The kids are on summer break here in my district in Tucson. I only finished my contract time last Friday. This Monday started summer planning with teachers. The glamorous summer off narrative is a lie.

A class at my kids’ school put up little statements about the good they want to do in the world and I was over the moon about this one - then I learned they meant to say “teach people in jail” which is also good!
