All school lunches should be free. And it’s a complete societal failure that they’re not.

Today a first grader saw my watch and told me: “Profe! You’re wearing a tiny little clock on you! I’ve never seen such a tiny little clock!” And damn did it make me feel like someone who was born in the 1900s

Since so many people wear smart watches these days, I wonder if it really was the first time this student has seen a mechanical watch

It’s been a minute since I shared a crow photo with y’all, so here you go!

PSA: If you turned off your alarm for Indigenous People’s day, don’t forget to turn it back on tonight!

Play is how children learn about the world. It should be encouraged and prioritized, even within academic settings. But turning play into a strict formula so that we can assess its outcomes is not it.

Adults just need to let kids play and stop trying to control how they do it.

It takes something as magical as play and turns it into an academic pursuit, often stripping away a lot of the joy and creativity inherent to play in the process.

I get it. Schools need to prove how what they do is beneficial for learning, but here’s the thing… All play is learning!!! And that’s true whether or not a child creates a “play plan”. Ifs true regardless of if there are stated objectives for play.

I cannot stand the way some schools are implementing their version of “play” in which play is tied to specific learning outcomes, kids have to write a “play plan” outlining how they will play, strict procedures for how children will choose play are enforced, and the outcome of their play assessed.

Just watched my son compete in his first ever cross country meet and I am so damn proud!! 🥹 🥲
