Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) ran this ad when he was running for US Senate in 2004 as a Democrat. The ad touted his support for free college tuition. Note how Kennedy's accent is much less animated.

good afternoon to all, but particularly to the dude who just wandered past a flower garden and exclaimed, "look at those bees, doing their little jobs; go bees!" and also to bees

Actually just one video ought to do it

In 1971, Daniel Ellsberg leaked The Pentagon Papers exposing the lies told to the public about the disastrous Viet Nam war, forever becoming a hero in history. Now... someone PLEASE leak #TheEPSTEINFiles & end the biggest coverup scandal of all-time! 🙏

For many weeks, the two species had lived in mutual tolerance of one another. And then, without provocation, the hornets began throwing rocks at Ned’s house.

I wonder if such graphics will be used as justification of “prevailing usage” in ICZN cases. Maybe Code-5 should wordsmith a bit to allow?

Tool to display the use of a taxonomic name over time based on @biodivlibrary.bsky.social data is online at iphylo.org/bhl-name-tim..., the screenshot shows results for Physeter catodon versus Physeter macrocephalus (names for the sperm whale). This will be part of @tdwg.org workshop on BHL in Oslo.

Probably better set in a NAPA parking lot but, in any case, the comments are priceless

In a suburban Home Depot parking lot, five men in orange aprons stand in a semicircle, staring at the ground. “Alas, is not one among us fit to rule?” decries the eldest. From behind them comes a small, quavering voice. “I would like to try.” They turn as one to find young Arthur of Lawn and Garden.

Always something new in Diptera to keep us Diptera taxonomists busy

Might be on interest for my ecology friends here 🧪, we shown how even 40 years of observations does not rarefy completely diversity of insect groups with prevalent dark taxa (looking at you, 🪰) @flygirlnhm.bsky.social @steveormerod.bsky.social @stephenbheard.bsky.social @cschaboo.bsky.social

In digging through old taxonomy works to ascertain this or that detail of taxonomical history, I sure wasn't expecting a Star Wars-type text crawl of author accolades. From Daniel Giraud Elliot's "A review of the primates" vol. II (1913), www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/39494#p...

Today the UK celebrates 250 years of independence from the tyranny of the United States of America. Imagine living in a society where the leader can repeatedly break the law and nobody stops them!

Great analysis by Darth and definitely worth the read. But does Putin even give a f**k about Russians? It is always about him. He’ll hang on until they hang *him* from something. Of course, defenestration is an apropos possibility too.

Find out what ELSE that caddie told Trump about “history”. It might solve a few mysteries of how he views things.

Just another reason to believe that the most powerful man in the world is bonkers.

How long before there’s a text from Trump demanding she be fired … or else…

Anonymous@youranoncentral.bsky.social

Trump meltdown, gets called out for lying, calls the reporter crooked and stupid, and runs away abruptly. Trump: "Your elections in this country are crooked! we are like a third-world country, your elections are crooked!" "Your" elections? "Your" country? 🤔

Had the great fortune today of witnessing the emergence of a beefly (Hemipenthes morioides) from its pupa in the sandy hillside. It all happened very quickly, and within a few minutes it looked like a mature adult!

Times Obituary for Peter Chandler today, written by close friend, Dr Ian F.G. McLean. Dr McLean said: "I am so pleased that Peter should receive this accolade, he was very helpful to many Dipterists and always disarmingly modest about his outstanding contributions to the study of flies".

May 20 is World Bee Day. 🧪🐡🐝 There are ~20,000 different bee species in the world. Here in Ontario we have at least 400 native bees (none of which are the honeybees, which are from Europe). Bees are key to pollination. According to the UN nearly 90% of the world’s wild flowering plant species depend

#WorldBeeDay There are ~20,000 known species of bee; 85% are solitary bees like this one. Hardworking single moms with no hive or workers to help. Honey bees are an important domesticated species, but not representative of bee diversity
