Have they considered starving these fuckers of money? If they can cut off sex workers and porn performers, they can cut off people who are actually dangerous. "Sorry, you can't use any financial services because you've said you can't stop your product from destroying ours," could work wonders.

My Dad's leukemia is now "something you die with" rather than "something you die of." Smoking is no longer cool, and cigarette smoke no longer poisons every venue. No smog. No lakes or rivers on fire. AIDS is not a death sentence. Fucking Ozempic, man, it rocks for diabetics like me.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

An appropriate follow-up question would be, "So if I were to attack you and your family, destroy your home, beat you, torture you, and threaten to kill you, your response would be to sit down and wait for some future point at which it would make sense to oppose me?"

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

Sure, it's impolite to turn an interview into a hypothetical discussion of the interviewer brutalizing the interviewee, but I think it would be useful to demonstrate that these weasels never mean themselves. It's always *other* people who should be sacrificed for the proper time and greater good.

This is true, and pervasive, and it's why I've been called an elite or elitist by people far wealthier than this son of educators, but it's important to remember it also means "Jewish." The forces behind all that is wrong in our society always boil down to racism, misogyny, and antisemitism.

An Anarchist Who Tried Her Best@nataliereed84.bsky.social

This is the thing a lot of people don’t understand about the term “elites” as used by the Right. It *always* just means “you think you’re better than me?!”. That’s why they can conceptualize Presidents as Guys You Can Have A Beer With and Starbucks workers as “elites”. They despise our attempts to..

Grotesque in its honesty. So much of "AI" is about the pathetic grievances of white failures. And I do wish they wouldn't use my name for this dreck.

KetAnthropic JoshAI@ketanjoshi.co

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

My mom can't remember names. She can forget a name three minutes after you've told her. She can forget a name SHE has just used. Now, I'm not quite that bad, but... For about the sixth time I've tried to figure out whether one GBBO host's name is Michelle or Melissa when of course it's Alison. 😅

On the one hand, EA and corporate greed are obvious evils. On the other, ME3 ended so very badly, and Veilguard broke new ground in combining antisemitism with anti-Romani bigotry. So I hate that it's happening this way, but I'm less sad than I might have been.

BREAKING: Electronic Arts is cutting 400 jobs and shutting down BioWare, the legendary development studio behind Dragon Age and Mass Effect. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

I'm not even sure how I feel about the employees. I'm opposed to mass layoffs on principle, but if you're at all responsible for saying, "let's combine Jewish and Romani people, have everyone else blame them for everything, and then make them actually at fault"... maybe you deserve to lose that job.

End of public musing: I think bigotry should be recognized and punished, but I don't think evil greedy megacorporations are the ones to do it, and that's obviously not what's going on here. Ugh to everything.

The tone of surprise and shock in this article is disgusting. After seeing this exact behavior from Trump dozens of times over the span of years? Very "but I'm a white man, how could he?" 🧐 Obviously no one in the Trump admin should ever work again, but this is also true of much of the press corps.

"I was doing my job," writes Andrew Feinberg, White House reporter for the Independent. Thta enraged Trump, and led his press shop to sling a revolting insult. www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a...

In college I quit a phone sales job for those educational wild animal card sets after half a shift because I got chewed out for not hard-selling a sweet old lady who had lost everything in a flood and couldn't afford them but still wanted to do something nice for her grandkids.

This post is unavailable.

I had those cards when I was a kid. They were neat. I thought selling fun educational stuff couldn't be evil. How naive I was... Boss chewed me out because I had a "guaranteed sale" (she was broke and might lose her home) and should have "pressed my advantage" (she was near tears). Loudly.

Anyway, boss man found out you don't try to loom over and intimidate someone twice your size unless you want them to stand up and return the favor, and you don't start a shouting contest with an Italian unless you want everyone within three blocks to know exactly what he thinks of you. 😅

I'm watching the original 1968 Night of the Living Dead, and it occurred to me that if it were remade today they'd be trying to board up the doors and windows by hammering nails into drywall. Which would make for a short movie. Unless they had a stud finder handy.

In the immortal words of Luke "Wolverine" Skywalker, may thy knife chip and shatter.

NEW: Epic Games has delayed its upcoming (not yet announced) Star Wars + Marvel shooter as it pivots to complete AI game development. "No more hand-written code," a director told staff. All art "generated with full AI workflows." Full scoop: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

hey ben. the guy in the picture here is an actual person, my friend’s dad, and a spiritual leader of Lakota people, Chief Arvol Looking Horse. not only does he support Indigenous People’s Day, he’s the founder of World Peace and Prayer Day. feels weird to use his image and not his name.

Happy Indigenous People's Day from an Italian-American who believes Columbus' only legacy should be abomination for his many crimes against humanity, with a footnote that he wasn't unusual in knowing the world to be round, and he was a shit navigator as well as a shit human.

Just be prepared to be considered spam automatically everywhere if you try to use one for email. For years I had a .info domain, and that was my experience. Also not being able to complete forms, email rejected by automated systems, etc.

Interviewer: can you explain this gap in your resume? Historian: We don't have primary sources from that period, as is often the case, but the candidate's performance (Nome et. al, 1-2) in the surrounding years (Ibid., 2-3) builds sufficient pattern (Ibid., 1) to move forward.

(Text borrowed shamelessly from the Admonitions of Ipuwer, bereft of context, lots of stuff omitted between the two paragraphs, some lacunae added for dramatic effect, so I could squeeze in two of my favorite bits from the text.)

The state propaganda service informs me that the state is not doing any of the things we can actually see the state doing. I am so relieved to know the evidence of my senses was wrong.

National Guard soldiers, who are in DC specifically to intimidate people, are standing in front of a ballot drop box. This isn't theoretical, this isn't a fantasy, it's right there in the photograph. Which hasn't prevented folks like this from trying to tell you voter intimidation is something else.

This post is unavailable.

Even at 6'4" and grumpy, I'm not intimidating walking along the sidewalk. I would be very intimidating standing in front of your door, even (especially?) if I didn't say anything or move overtly to bar you from entering your home. Where you do something can be as important as what you're doing.

This post is unavailable.

But this is all ridiculous because the obvious, overt purpose of the National Guard in D.C. is intimidation. Everyone knows this. It's the people who pretend not to know this who are selling something.

Siamo tutti antifascisti! They're chanting the old anti-Mussolini slogan in Italian. Oh, my heart. 😭

The Battlestar Galactica remake. It started strong, as a more realistic take on the premise, wobbled badly every time a Cylon talked about god, and went completely off the rails into an apologia for eugenics and mass slaughter of the undeserving. I can't watch even the good parts now.

"...and then pop them into the oven TO DRY THEM OUT." This said about a cookie that was in danger of having a flavor, and thus was incredibly tiny. So they bake them twice to make sure they're properly like eating beach sand.

"We call them biscuits. The essential characteristics are: harder than the ship's rations of our jolly Jack Tars, drier than the desert where Monty fought Rommel, and eating them should require a stiff upper lip and a heart of oak."

Great thread, and it neatly encapsulates why I think Jurassic Park is the rare perfect movie. Acting, directing, effects, yes, but more importantly every frame is earned. Nothing happens without being set up and foreshadowed, no setup is left without appropriate payoff. This monologue is its heart:

It's extra alarming that those are NOT the colors of the American flag. They're dimmer, greyer, darker. The eagle has no olive branch, just arrows. This is pure fascism: "We are a nation in decline, and it's all because of [insert marginalized group of the moment]."

TSA says it is removing chairs at document checks in airports, requiring staff to stand for their shift. TSA explained the reason as twofold: to ensure its employees meet its fitness standards and to create an amiable environment for travelers.

Not responding directly because I have no wish to derail a 99.9% correct thread, but... I do wish we would stop blaming other animals for human behavior. No other animal species commits the crimes human evil ingenuity has devised. We have become worse with evolution, on pace with our betterment.

Some other animals have behaviors we would consider crimes, but do they have the necessary cognitive framework to view these behaviors the same way? I don't think anyone knows for certain, but I strongly suspect humans invented evil, and only humans are to blame when evil is done.

What's darkly amusing and pathetic is that @jamestalarico.bsky.social mostly talks about trans children by saying he wants to deny them medical care and participation in sports. Just like the Republicans. Ain't workin' out so great, is it, Bucky?
