🧵🌊❄️ For the past week Antarctic sea-ice extent has closely tracked its decline through the same week in the previous record low year of 2023. The persistent low extent then was so far below anything recorded before that even experts were surprised and struggled to explain the sudden change.
🧵 🏆🥇It's a record! Antarctic sea ice extent is now the lowest it has been for the date since the satellite record started 47 years ago. On October third the extent was 16.739 million km², dipping under the previous record of 16.848 million km² set on this date in 2023.
