The best defense against fascism is a strong conservative party with high standards. A corrupt, weak, venal party like the Republicans is where fascism breeds.

I don't think I ever watched an episode of Star Trek (science fiction isn't my thing), but I thought casting a Russian while the Cold War was still raging, to make the point that humans would get along better in the future, was a lovely touch.

When I meet people who rant like Trump, I have to ask myself: is this person lying or afflicted with incurable psychosis? Either way, not much good comes from the conversation. I learned a long time ago the hard lesson that you can't relate to someone living in a different reality.
