Every time I read one of these articles, I can't get over how repellent the ChatGPT "tone" is. And how we now live in an age where someone in the tech sector probably thinks it's good that journalists' time is getting wasted fielding support tickets

Jason Koebler@jasonkoebler.bsky.social

In the last few weeks i've been bombarded with emails from people who have minor tech support problems. ChatGPT is telling them to email me, writing their emails, and compiling "evidence packets" after convincing them they have stumbled on a major story: www.404media.co/chatgpt-keep...

This is why litmus test slogans like "trans women are women" are important. Because disingenuous dickheads will vomit a whole lot of nice-sounding pap about love and acceptance and respect and tolerance in order to placate you directly underneath the next bus if they think it will get them votes

One of my oft-repeated stories from 2023 is getting a question about trans rights at a candidate meeting and everyone before me, INCLUDING THE GUY FROM BRIAN AND HANNAH TAMAKI'S PARTY, said some version of "oh sure I mean people should be able to live their lives if they're not hurting anyone else"

It is not GOOD ENOUGH to be vaguely on the side of Nice Stuff in a world where marginalized people are constantly under attack and we can see very clearly how that Nice Stuff gets twisted to justify literally any oppression or atrocity.

Don't ever settle for "well I think everyone should be treated fairly" if the question is: do you support trans rights. Will you defund the police. Will you protect migrants from racist attacks. Should workers be able to unionize. Do you oppose Israel's genocide in Gaza and what will you DO about it

Today's successful decoding of the Enigma machine that is our kid's gestalt language development: "Christmas lights" plus "black straw" relates to the one or two times we've gone to a specific pub in Tawa and she drank apple juice, and she wishes to recreate that scene. Mostly the apple juice part.

The Government™ has made an ad about all these protests happening around the world, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.

The Greens' manifesto is just, like, entirely online, if you really want to know if "any" party has policies on increasing solar availability, phasing out fossil fuels, subsidising electric/alternative/public transport, or putting a climate lens on trade Is that the point, am I missing the point

When political scientists first raised concerns about this new restriction last year we were told we were being ‘alarmist’ to suggest tilting the playing field unfairly like this by one party can undermine the legitimacy of the election out come for all Kiwis in a tight race I’m still ‘alarmed’…

Last day! NZ National restricted general roll voting regulations for the first time in 40 yrs To reporters please don’t repeat spin- the change won’t speed up counting - And let’s not shrug & say just 2% fewer voters enrolled It’s 300,000 NZers prevented from voting That’s an entire NZ town

This election in a nutshell: a comment on FB saying "people should just be organised to enrol, it's not like this information is difficult to find" followed eight minutes later by a different person saying "why are you blaming the government, this was the electoral commission's decision"

The right's line this election is "why should you get to vote if you aren't organised enough to enrol". Next term, if Paul Goldsmith has any say, it'll be, why should you get to vote if you have a conviction. Or aren't a citizen. Or receive a benefit. Or don't own property. Or don't have a job.

The next progressive government can't just reverse these changes. They have to DRASTICALLY democratise our elections. Same day enrolment. Massive funding increase for the electoral commission. Lower the party threshold, voting age 16, no restrictions on switching Māori/general rolls.

Voting is a massive pain in my ample arse. I hate peopleing, and I hate the silent Presbyterian eyeball-judgement in the queue. Whatever, I’ll do my civic duty. But Luxon’s coalition of calamity just made doing yours that little bit harder, and why you have until MIDNIGHT TONIGHT to enrol. #nzpol 🧵👇

Lots of "politicians and gangs" in the election news. For completeness, I'd like to see "politicians and people who believe great replacement theory", "politicians and extremely conservative religions", "politicians and pedophiles who were the head of the party and had that fact suppressed" too.

Friend looking for granny flat-type rental between Auckland CBD and Greenlane, like Parnell, Remuera or Mt. Eden. She's a medical professional with a new job in GL and has a lovely, well behaved dog. Any leads welcome. Thanks!

Everyone's Hipkins takes are very good and thoughtful, I'm just over here stuck in a loop of "but how could you not expect people to point out all the times your party/candidates/government associated positively with gangs"

There's important analysis to do about Labour's relentless focus on shanking the left to appeal to the Herald letters section I can't get past, "an entire team of professional political campaigners forgot that Labour funding gang-related programmes was already a major dogwhistle of the right"

I know this is obvious and doesn't need to be spelled out to most people reading this, but being opposed to something ideologically is not newsworthy. Bob McCoskrie has no relevant experience, expertise, understanding or standpoint to comment on trans healthcare on ANY level ever.

To stay in power you actually need to do something. You need to show voters that you aren't just more of the same. You need to improve lives. No centrist western parties are interested in learning this lesson. Which is why we have the political landscape shift further and further right.

In November, Dems will likely win big. Liberals will feel relieved. In 2028, a milquetoast corporate Democrat will win the presidency, spend 4 years maintaining what Trump did as liberals go back to brunch. Then, in 2032, as life keeps getting worse, we’ll get something like President T Carlson.
