This obsession with stylelessness in writing is the flipside of theorizing about language entirely as a semantic network. It leads people to misdirect and misunderstand syntactic discontinuities and the embodied cognitive processes of reading, writing, symbol manipulation and interactive thinking.

The Grave Of Perfection by @aptshadow.bsky.social is full of a sly wit that keeps bringing to mind Discworld. Not as comedic, but the same joy in language Rincewind might not find himself at home on the streets of Ilmar, but he would at least understand the wry irony of the local Maric patois.

Something else to think about instead of moving boxes is this: It’s a challenge to communicate easily and effectively to customers that many links in the chain of “norms” are being broken right now.
Just taken delivery of our first pallet in a while. I was using a kind of just-in-time dripfeed from my warehouse friends. But that’s not viable in late 2026, when parcel couriers don’t want to move a consignment of 4 boxes, and now charge too much per box. so pallets it is. 1/?

Short 🧵 about the situation of shipping indie products during the polycrisis. Assumptions you might have grown used to in the time of zero interest rates and global free trade expansion no longer hold.

I ran a large RPG club at a girls middle school for many years and do have thoughts and advice that I've updated. I’ll thread but also post here: gist.github.com/altercation/... Spoiler: A lot of my advice is not specific to RPGs! cc @montecookgames.com @jonesm80.bsky.social @aardwyrm.bsky.social
Calling all nerds! Has anyone successfully run an after-school TTRPG club? Do we have any advice for improving player retention?

There are all kinds of problems with politics and politicians but a non-trivial number of them derive directly the unhinged way the media treat the subject (and the people)
You know I'm a massive Luxo hater, but do you know who seemed the most out of touch in the debate? The political journalists discussing it afterwards like it's an actual sports breakdown, like wtf fire them all.

From "I've Been Loving You Too Long" to "Goodbye, Margaret," Twin Peaks Season 3's 'Part 15' is one of the most moving episodes of television ever filmed. I reviewed it for @popheist.com (gift link!)

Haha incredible, a Baywatch legacy sequel. I never watched the original and will not watch this but dived into this trailer with delight. It is SO over the top with only the barest barest hint of a knowing wink. Giving the people what they want! youtu.be/QSn1VqUONV8?...

New Zealand expert here, New Zealanders only ask directly for help when they are in distress (Seriously though, David is a gem, webworm is amazing and has notably improved the world with the series on the Kiwi big churches alone, and also Alan the dog is there, check it out)
hello friends TMI but webworm could use your help! pulling the curtain back a little (embarassing, kiwis aren't wired for this). eternal gratitude if you can be fucked reading x me www.webworm.co/webwormsos/

Re-upping this. Election politics are getting gnarly over on the big blue. Facebook, for better or worse (mostly worse), is the most consequential political space we have, so if you're over there, make it count. (The most useful tip for me: the reminder to scroll right past Simeon Brown & co)
It's election time in NZ and Facebook is where lots of voters hang out. So, here's my Facebook Playbook.

what needs to be added to this is the magnitude of the falsehood. i.e Hipkins was "mostly false" by a dollar for the price of an NZ block of butter in Australia. Luxon was "mostly false" about Labour having an $18 billion fiscal hole, which is 18 billion (10 orders of magnitude) times worse
Newsroom has fact-checked many of the claims made last night by Christopher Luxon and Chris Hipkins in the NZ Herald leaders debate, finding both made false and misleading statements: newsroom.co.nz/2026/10/15/f...
