Over on the bad site, a defense of the ad featuring Amy Acton's mother is that Acton's story doesn't make sense because someone can't just escape justice by leaving the state for such a serious crime. That's simply not true. Over a decade ago @bradheath.bsky.social did a great piece on this:

Good morning. Federal prosecutors in Chicago filed partially redacted documents overnight in the "Broadview Six" case. The redactions appear to include the signature block (including the name) of one of the attorneys representing the United States government:

When federal prosecutors assured Judge April Perry last spring they'd had no contact with top DOJ brass while pursuing the "Broadview Six," she took them at their word. Those days are over. From me and @sophiesherry.bsky.social on Perry's fact-finding effort: chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2026/1...

Six of the seven active federal judges in Minnesota spoke to The New York Times about the fallout from the Trump administration's surge there. One judge had to go into hiding. Another said it "created a grave threat to the rule of law.” www.nytimes.com/2026/09/17/u...

The judge ultimately found that ICE officers violated the men's Fourth Amendment rights when they questioned them in the parking lot of another store. (The opinion doesn't say whether the supervisor ever got to the bathroom.)

A federal judge in Washington has denied the Justice Department's request to drop the case against Steve Bannon, who had been found guilty of contempt of Congress. The judge said the government has not explained why it wants to drop the case after Bannon had been found guilty.

Until Monday, one of Bannon's attorneys of record had been Trent McCotter, who asked to leave the case in July. He's been a senior Justice Department official since January, and is now the acting deputy attorney general.

NEW: What Monday’s Supreme Court election order ruling is and is not. The Republican majority gave Trump a temporary win. It could be short-lived — or it could “foment chaos,” as Justice Jackson wrote, calling out the majority in unusually direct terms. Tonight, at Law Dork:

The nation's acting deputy attorney general, Trent McCotter, was technically still Steve Bannon's listed lawyer until this morning. (Bannon asked to swap him out in July, three months after McCotter joined the DOJ.)
