October is OCD Awareness Month
For my latest Pittsburgh City Paper article, I got to boost the work that The Center for OCD and Anxiety is doing to help raise awareness
(and also share a little glimpse of my own personal experience as someone who has obsessive compulsive disorder)

‘See’st thou yon gray gleaming hall,
Where the deep elm-shadows fall?
Voices that have left the earth
Long ago,
Still are murmuring round its hearth,
Soft and low’ ~ The Haunted House, Felicia Dorothea Hemans and

I'm in this bundle. Never been in a bundle before. If you find me kind of annoying and don't want to give me a direct sale, but are compelled by the siren song of everyone saying Minty Fresh is really good, you can always buy this bundle and support other authors as well. ✨️

“The Skeleton Dance endures not because it was forward-thinking (even though it was) but because it reaches back into the past—many centuries further than 1929—to the Medieval tradition of the danse macabre.”

Happy National Apple Day!
Speaking of apples, the most brutal Irish curse I’ve ever come across is go ndéana an diabhal dréimire de chnámh do dhroma is é ag piocadh úll i ngairdín Ifrinn. It means “may the Devil make a ladder of your backbone while he picks apples in the garden of Hell.”

Day 17: Music
This gravestone for Silva Gardner was purchased by her father, Newport Gardner (born Occramer Marycoo). He was kidnapped in Africa at age 14, enslaved, and—after winning a lottery that allowed him to buy freedom for his family—owned a music school in Newport, RI.
MY DOG: Oh, my poor person! Coughing and sneezing and having such a sad nose!
MY DOG: I will kiss your nose and make it better.
*dog gently licks the tip of my nose*
ME: Thank you, that was very swee—
*dog sticks tongue up my nostril*
ME: Ack!
MY DOG: Hold still, I’m decongesting you.
MY DOG: Just gonna hold your finger in my mouth for a little bit.
MY DOG: Not a little bite.
MY DOG: I’d never bite you.
MY DOG: No matter how good a snack your fingers would be.
MY DOG: A little om, no nom.
MY DOG: Affectionately not eating your fingers.
MY DOG: Even though I kind of want to.
ME: *sneezing and nose-blowing*
MY DOG: Shall I administer my Patented Remedy for Sinus Congestion & Other Maladies of the Head?
ME: You mean when you stick your tongue up my nose and try to lick my brain?
MY DOG: Proven cure for what ails you. Guaranteed 100% effective or else I’ll do it again.
MY DOG: Oh person, my person! I have the most serious of problems! My ears aren’t floppy enough! You must flop my ears!
ME: [Floppy, flop flops right ear. Floppy, flop flops left ear.]
ME: Better?
MY DOG: What part of serious problem was unclear?
Many ear flops later…
MY DOG: Crisis averted.
MY DOG: Why has it been so very long since last you petted me?
ME: I was asleep.
MY DOG: I don’t know what that has to do with anything.
ME: You were also asleep.
MY DOG: I don’t understand what point you’re trying to make.
ME: …
MY DOG: …
[Much petting]
ME: Who’s a good girl?
ME: Who’s the goodliest girl?
ME: Who’s the best girl ever?
MY DOG: I hope you understand that since going deaf, I now just assume that every time your mouth moves, you’re telling me I’m the best.
ME, loudly: YOU are the BEST, GOODLIEST GOOD GIRL ever!!!
MY DOG: I know.
I loved today's #AScareADay story. We read Violent Hunt's 'The Prayer'. What if your prayer was answered and your just dead husband came back? There are no revenants here in the traditional sense but plenty of creeping discomfort and dread.
Well worth a read!
When Grammy-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens begins playing “Old Corn Liquor,” a traditional Black American folk tune, acclaimed Chinese pipa virtuoso Wu Man recognizes similarities to Chinese pentatonic music and spontaneously joins in.
The joy on their faces says it all.
Instead of focusing on something stupid like what AI boosters say when they try to sell you snake-oil shit, why not buy my new short story collection of older horror and crime stories, some of which no one has ever seen? It's available on Itch -
