ChatGPT is adding the signatures of real New Yorker cartoonists to its AI-generated images. So far, I've found the signatures of more than 15 contributors. "It’s slop, and unlike the other slop that I’ve encountered, this is slop that’s pretending to be me." www.niemanlab.org/2026/10/chat...

Let’s be very clear: there is value in automating tedious and repetitive and dangerous tasks; there is value in delegating certain work to our machines that can do the work tirelessly and much faster.

Working on #cleflang tooling that might look a bit familiar to #fsharp UoM fans and Ada and VHDL devs too. Getting dimensional type inference to work in the Native Type Universe was a fun challenge.

Some people have reduced their own value to what can be accomplished with a computer, and consider anything that can match their limited capabilities to be as human as they are.

Engaging in mental gymnastics to justify what's convenient but unevidenced, unjust but personally beneficial, 'rewires your neural map' in ways that degrade your overall ability to understand and analyze the world around you, which is a precondition for intelligence and creativity.

Recall that in April, all members of NSB were removed. These are trained experts that guide the NSF in promoting research, education in science & engineering. Some highly scoring proposals, w/ real potential will not be funded now. 🧪 www.science.org/content/arti...

My team uncovered that foreign enemies are targeting U.S. servicemembers in war zones by buying their location data. The threat to national security posed by data brokers has never been more clear. We need to dismantle the surveillance advertising industry.

Scoop: Central Command is getting reports that military personnel are being targeted using commercially available location data. Few details available, but it’s a sign that the tech industry’s advertising-surveillance complex is having consequences on the battlefield. www.reuters.com/business/med...

I find the acceptance and defense of mediocrity to be deeply depressing. This is true not just in the context of large language models, but particularly in the case of certain scholars and politicians.

Today, we are releasing DuckDB v1.5.3. This is not an ordinary patch release – it packs many new features for the Quack client-server protocol, Quack support for DuckLake, and big updates for AWS, HTTPS and Iceberg. Check out our blog post about all these changes and improvements – link in the 🧵.

This generation of AI tooling will not change the CI/CD process. People will continue setting up dominos of shell scripts and using triggers to knock them over.

No one outside of a dozen shops are building models. Everyone building "AI this" or "agentic that" are simply rediscovering 40+year-old patterns, and in many cases very poorly. speakez.tech/blog/actors-...

AI has created a new abstraction layer so more people can also"create" apps but the machine is doing ALL of this same stuff behind the scenes.

now seeing takes from haters that it's still vibe coding's fault, if for no other reason than that they like the vibe of blaming vibe coding one of the biggest tells of trustworthiness or untrustworthiness, to me, is willingness to retract an interpretation that turns out to be unsupported by facts

The application has remained stable since approximately 9 PM PDT, April 16 despite ongoing Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks. We have not seen any evidence of unauthorized access to private user data. We will provide a further update by end of day.

Genuine question: how to interpret large acquisitions of software companies and talent by AI labs while they say coding is “largely solved”? Is it only hype? Do they mean that it’s solved by them aggregating talent and tools?
