A sunny weekend in Ireland and great to see that even in mid-October solar farms can now peak as high as 1/4 of the island's electricity demand ☀️ As our charts below show, it makes a huge difference to mid-day grid carbon intensity! 🏭 📊

Ireland’s performance on #climate mitigation is the worst in Europe and will still be the worst in 2030. In this infographic that’s measured by the size of the gap between the left of the green bar graph (cuts achieved) and the blue dot (2030 goal).

Renewable generation and discharging storage equalled 72% of yesterday's electricity demand, with a peak of 82% at 05:15. Fossil fuel generation (mostly gas) equalled 26% of demand. 5% of generation was exported, 7% of demand was met by imports.

🚨 Half of all new cars registered in Ireland in September were fully electric (49.3%)! Car sales here are concentrated in January and July, so a single month is misleading, but I pulled out the BEV sales share for July-September sales for the past years: 2024 - 14% 2025 - 22% 2025 - 35% 📈↗️👆‼️

The technology already exists to escape the price shocks of the end of the fossil fuel era #IrishEnergyTransition #IrelandsEnergyTransition

Ireland's chronic over-dependence on HGVs for freight leaves us at mercy of every fuel crisis & cutting diesel prices is only a short-term salve. We need to shift to rail freight & electrify our HGV fleet, as I explain in @irishexaminer.bsky.social today. www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/comm...

Nice to see over half of yesterdays electricity demand met by renewable generation and batteries- fossil fuel reduced to just 35%_ #IrishEnergyTransition #IrelandsEnergyTransition

Renewable generation and discharging storage equalled 56% of yesterday's electricity demand, with a peak of 77% at 11:45. Fossil fuel generation (mostly gas) equalled 35% of demand. 1% of generation was exported, 10% of demand was met by imports.

Well done Galway & Co Louth and all the counties that host solar Farms )and all sustainable energy) for helping Ireland get off expensive imported fuel #IrishEnergyTransition #IrelandsEnergyTransition

Irish solar farm growth, 2019 through September 2026. All growth in recent years is in the ROI. The fleet expanded a lot this year, and has headed west: the island's second largest solar farm is now in County Galway. The newest? Monvallet in County Louth which powered up during September. 📊 ☀️ ☘️

We've just launched our pre-budget ideas. The basic idea that Ireland's high costs need investment to deal with - not just money to cope. Our core proposal is a big once-off package to support households financially and to move faster off expensive fossil fuels.

🌿 Great afternoon at Reilly’s Community Garden at the 8th Lock for the opening of their new biodiversity pond. Delighted to have helped secure the land for community use some years ago, but huge credit to the volunteers who have made it such a brilliant local space. 💚

This makes for a depressing read. And the worst bit? This being exposed won't change decision makers behaviour in any way. This is what political capture looks like. Our nature, health and wellbeing are the price for the industrial farm lobby's profits. www.grilled.media/inside-copa-...

I've never known anybody that has ever been involved. It's not spoken about, its not even something that used happen here. SF are supporting bloodsports for about 10 cranky men across the country that don't vote for them anyways

I know tons of people in “rural Ireland” and none of them know anything about Hare Coursing. I need to see the constituency data that keeps TDs fearing for their lives over it.

Trust us, the current European heatwave is no joke 🥵 However, clear skies and long days are good for capturing power from the sun: as of 4pm this afternoon, solar farms had been meeting >30% of the ROI's electricity needs for several hours ☀️ This kind of share for solar is all new this summer 📊

Water quality and Irish aquaculture: Astonishing to learn — not only that companies continue operating for years with an out-of-date licence — but effectively there's also no oversight of environmental impacts of these commercial operations.

The section of the Fisheries Act that allows licences for aquaculture to be kept for years and years, after they have run out, without environmental assessment, needs to be amended much more urgently.

New hotels in Dublin will now face a much higher development charge than housing. That's thanks to a Green proposal we brought through Dublin City Council. The Irish Hotels Federation aren't happy, but I think we need to really focus in on the development our city prioritises.
