Out of touch, car-centric victim-blaming nonsense. It's attitudes like this at the top that's the cause of rising road deaths and serious injuries.

At the Oireachtas Transport Committee today, Irish Rail outlined the next steps for DART+ West, which aims to transform rail services for communities across Dublin West, Kildare and Meath. Key updates from the discussion include 👇

Is this building derelict? According to the law, it's not. We have a serious problem with dereliction in this country and the threshold for what can be deemed derelict is too high. The government is replacing the Derelict Sites Levy with a new Derelict Property Tax collected by Revenue.

It's not enough to just change how the derelict sites levy is collected, we need to take this opportunity to change the legal threshold of dereliction so that owners of buildings like these can be made to bring these properties back into life.

A few weeks ago, I brought a motion to Dublin City Council asking to write to the Minister asking for these changes because the current legislation isn't fit for purpose.

I think these billboards are ugly and we should discourage them from being installed! The Greens just closed a loophole that allowed advertising companies to avoid paying development levies for billboards in Dublin city.

Now I want to increase it to discourage more of this scourge being installed in the first place. We also doubled the development levies for new hotels in the city to tip the balance towards building new housing. Too many sites in the city are turned into aparthotels instead of apartments!

The Green Party supports union members who have been driven to take strike action this Wednesday. The Government needs to stop posturing, recognise that workers have been hit by months of inflation, and deliver a fair day's pay for a fair day's work.

Can you revive a zombie river? Our cities are full of rivers that have been buried in concrete after industrial pollution filled them with filth. But there's a global drive to bring them back: to "daylight" these forgotten rivers. I had a lovely day out in Sheffield today, seeing it actually happen.

Very efficient to have them doing what DPER already does. My guess is this will be a half arsed DOGE for the Healy Rae and Michael Collins axis who'll get to haul a few woke NGOs into the PAC and cancel a bikeshed in Ennis.

Minister announces new public spending efficiency taskforce to "extensively scrutinise day-to-day public spending". It will identify areas across public spending where there is scope for more efficiency, and recommend actions that can deliver better services and greater value for money.

All the talk of accelerating infrastructure while Luas Finglas is being pushed out to 2029 despite having full planning permission

The BusConnects Dublin Road project in Galway has had planning permission for over a year. No mention of any funding to build it in #Budget2027 or the press releases. It would have greatly improved bus journey times and cycling safety in Galway. #speirgorm

In last years budget, SEAI was allocated €640 million to support home retrofit. Min Chambers has just announced that SEAI will get €654.5 million in 2027 for retrofit. A €14.5 million increase. A 2% increase.

Having written off 4 years of carbon tax revenue (and no indication yet how that hole will be filled) the Tanaiste spends a section of his speech talking about how important energy transition is to his Government. But what the the measures he is actually announcing?

Ireland imports 80% of its wheat. Not great food security. Concentration on livestock farming elbowed Irish wheat out. Imported wheat and flour add considerably to the cost of living crisis. But new crop science opens the door to Irish grown wheat. Listen: 👉 www.rte.ie/listen/clip/...

Same guy also said the Luas made no economic sense and would fail to attract significant numbers of riders. Today, it's so popular it's free.

Newspapers should be required to fact check their columnists. Anti-train columnist Colm McCarthy claims that the only publicly available cost benefit analysis of MetroLink is from a preliminary assessment in 2022. An updated cost benefit analysis was published last week.

Independent mediation now. Green Party Deputy Leader Lesley Veronica said: "What we have seen at Drumcree is a failure of politics, a failure of process, and most importantly, a failure to properly listen to the people who have lived with the consequences of this dispute for decades. 1/6

The €1bn spent on fossil fuel sinces April would have put 8kw battery & solar on 100,000 homes buying them energy freedom for 20+ years. The €1bn+ that will be spent over the next few months would bring that to 250,000 homes. What we lack is will and vision

Even the victims are to blame, it seems. Unbelievably tone deaf from the minister who cancelled the reform of the Road Safety Authority, scuppered the speed limit reform and cancelled the red light camera enforcement pilot.

Fairer fares? Absolutely! That’s why Greens, SocDems, Labour and People Before Profit were at Dáil Éireann today, calling on Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien to reverse the proposed 15% increase in public transport fares in #Budget2027. Madness!

This is what the Climate Act enacted by the Greens does. This is what the Government (and some opposition parties) are slowly undoing.
