My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

So wildwood is an amazing achievement in so many ways. Within a few minutes your brain - even going in knowing it’s stop-motion - forgets and assumes it’s just 3D animation. It doesn’t make sense. It’s at a scope and scale that’s insane. But that’s Laika for ya. The story’s alright, cute and sweet.

I’m gonna be honest. When sci fi settings go for the ai vs non-ai cultural divide, I did not anticipate ‘the ai isn’t sentient, it’s a tool to make scams, and the people who make it cook their brains thinking it’s sentient when it’s not’ as the primary issue. Typically it’s a slavery thing.
