Think I'll jump off this platform for awhile. The misinformation and conspiracy spouting in the wake of the WHC dinner shooting, along with the outright hatred directed at the journalists present, has maxed me out. Bye for now.

Can a Pope also be president?

Rich Raho@richraho.bsky.social

Pope to Olympic Athletes: “It is possible to win without humiliating. One can lose without losing oneself. And this also applies beyond sport. It applies in social life, in politics, in relationships between peoples, because sport, if lived well, becomes a workshop for a reconciled humanity.”

Exactly right. And still they won't act.

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social

Senate Republicans refused to convict Trump after Jan 6. Republican SCOTUS appointees gave him immunity. Republicans in Congress today stand idly by as he unleashes death and destruction across the globe. We are now at the whims of a mad king because GOP leaders have refused to constrain him.

Unfortunately, yes.

Maggie Smith@maggiesmithpoet.bsky.social

So pro-life means jailing women who miscarry but shrugging when the deranged president says “a whole civilization will die tonight.” Do I have that right?

Remember Donald Trump’s “concept of a plan” for health care? The new Republican idea is to cut your health care to pay for Trump’s war in the Middle East and ICE’s terror in your community.

The quiet part isn't even quiet anymore. This isn't about security. It's about Republican control m

How the ef did Trump and the Republicans manage to win the White House and both houses of Congress without the SAVE Act on 2024? Can Lee explain that?

Oh for gods sake.

Fox & Friends discusses RFK Jr. working out in jeans: “I don’t like it in terms of gym etiquette, but I like it versus the alternative. If Kamala [Harris] won, your HHS secretary would be a guy wearing a dress to the gym.” Read more: www.thedailybeast.com/fox-friends-...

Pete Hegseth's glee as he boasts about America's military prowess makes me nauseous. A total disregard for the seriousness of taking human life.

Cake in the land of cholera.

ProPublica@propublica.org

John Gai carried his sick father to a nearby clinic in a wheelbarrow, but he died from cholera on the way. Gai then pushed the wheelbarrow for hours through the camp to take him to the cemetery: “Nobody should have to carry a dead body among the living.”

Woo hoo! Way to pressure, Kansas City. ICE detention center plans derailed...for now.

A bad look for Derek Schmidt of Kansas. Helping Pam Bondi push propaganda while avoiding legitimate questions.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Bondi is again granted time by Republicans to attack the previous Democratic questioner, in this case Jasmine Crockett, but Crockett doesn't take it without trying to fight back. She then leaves the hearing as Bondi continues to smear her.

Today in the resistance...this guy. Preach it!

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

wow -- with Trump standing behind him, a man (not sure who he is) offers this prayer: "We pray that he would be mindful of the poor and that he would be invested in the alleviation of suffering happening in the families preparing to bury their loved ones in Minneapolis."

Fun fact: For much of his career in Missouri politics Eric Schmitt was a moderate.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Schmitt: "Your words that don’t mean anything aren't going to stop what’s coming, and I want you to take that back to Soros and all these ridiculous funders you have. Because justice is coming. And by the way, if I have it my way, we will be denaturalize all these fraudsters and send them home."

Today in the resistance. Portland.

They may have gassed our comrades, our families and our children, but today was MASSIVE. If the surge comes, Portland is ready to defend our communities! ICE OUT!

An excerpt from Sophie Gilbert’s review of the new Melania movie: "Melania shows off her custom-made inauguration gown, stark white with black ribbons overlaying it, a dress that now looks unavoidably like the redacted Epstein files."

This morning Deputy AG Todd Blanche said the DOJ 'always investigates' shootings and would be investigating the Border Patrol killing of Alex Pretti. Last week Blanche said the DOJ would NEVER investigate the ICE fatal shooting of Renee Good.

Don’t let this White House lie to you. Believe what you see. Alex Pretti was trying to help a woman off the ground. Then immigration agents tackled, shot, and killed him. It’s time for them to get the hell out of MN.

God bless this police chief for standing up for his community and for justice.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

The Star Tribune reports that federal agents "attempted to order local police from the scene" where a man was shot and killed by feds this morning, but Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara refused and "instructed his officers to preserve the scene."
