my nuclear-grade AI hot take that’s sure to get me cancelled until kingdom come is that refusing to use AI at all is rapidly becoming an extremely privileged lifestyle choice that feels social justice-y while actually being the complete opposite
being anti AI is a luxury belief only available to first world people, especially Americans imagine how important machine translation is for people whose first languages aren't that common
Technically, yes, Chinese satellites WILL photograph Taiwan, as do American ones photograph Beijing. Practically, knowing these photos are used for targetting, and my apartment sits awfully close to the MND and other military bases, isn't making me feel any more comfortable.

the irony is trying to isolate technologists as being fascist just because we work with technology is actually fascist thinking "leftists" being mindlessly NIMBY about technology is the biggest reason why we have a climate crisis right now, because nuclear power would have solved that in the 70s
Yet another "it's ok to be an antisemite as long as you're pro-Israel". In context, AUR members physically and verbally attacking an ethnic Jewish member of the Romanian Parliament, utilizing antisemitic slurs, and sent death threats to Jewish-Romanian actress Maia Morgenstern.
The misleading part about this graph is that it doesn't track the weapons that were actually delivered, so it's basically a tracker for which admin has the most extractive relationship with Taiwan, without delivering any of the bought arms...

This article by @kharistempleman is a good explanation of Taiwan's politics "slow-motion constitutional crisis" since Lai Ching-te was elected president in 2024 "The twists and turns in this story would be comical were the consequences not so threatening to Taiwan’s democratic order—the country […]

you can rly tell where the industry is at given over 1/3 of mastodon users are writing more than 80% of their code with LLMs I try to tell anti-AI people this and I really don't think the truth has hit them yet
The poll so far between Twitter, Bluesky and Mastodon. I think it looks less absurd than last time, but still pretty clear that the base is divided. bsky.app/profile/mits...
I do not support this message. Just do public transit and let people enjoy their shitboxes if they agree to pay emissions taxes
i have to say in this day and age i consider any gas powered car a shitbox we had the tech a decade ago to completely remove them from the roads, and their shambolic remains clogging up our streets, polluting our air, and assaulting our eardrums should be an embarassment as a society

The only reason superstores exist is because it's cheaper to get humans to do the last 200m of logistics and self-select their produce than internalise the capex (like Ocado does). However, I think we should bet on automation and solving TSP for grocery runs
the UK is just cooked. seems like every boomer there has taken up NIMBY as their retirement hobby because god forbid people have access to affordable groceries

The energy security argument makes no sense either, yeah sure, I'm sure it will be very easy to retroactively NATIONALISE Jackdaw because the US refuses to sell you LNG
Zack Polanski criticises Labour over Jackdaw and says Andy Burnham "Wants to please Shell and Trump, rather than communities and the planet"

We should absolutely make policy that makes public spaces pleasant to be in, and makes people want to defend being in public spaces. This is a good policy, I give it my full support
