Hey, *professional* genealogists, if you can go to a courthouse to get a birth certificate, you can go to a university to get someone's letters. Or similar archival documents. sourceryapp.org/sourcerers/

I tried to figure out if anyone documented these lost workers. They died before NY State had a vital records law. They reported to contractors or subcontractors, so they were not on the state payroll. I found no surviving necrologies. 🗃️ #ErieCanal

But back to the dead workers, supposedly a lot of them died in the Montezuma Swamp. There were no railroads to ship their bodies home, no area newspapers to report on working conditions & deaths. So maybe they were buried on site? If so, there should be a marker for them.

I read the proposed charter revisions that City of Buffalo voters are voting on. Couldn't detect a downside to any of them. Is there a reason why any of these are bad?

I’ll be giving this talk in Buffalo week after next. I had a different title, but the Erie Co. Executive apparently threatened the museum’s funding if I did not change it. So I did. But I’ll talk about how both parties uphold settler colonialism Come see what all the fuss is about.

I've mentioned before I've updated my contracts to make sure everything in the production of my books is done by humans and not "AI"; if you're wondering what such a thing looks like, here's a clause covering that from a recent contract.

I think my ability to distinguish between "I am feeling weirdly anxious and low today" and "I am just a person having a totally normal reaction to being alive during the 2020s" might have completely vanished.

Half the time, I could not get my phone to scan when boarding a bus. Now I've aged into a senior pass. This is really helpful.
