a couple months ago i found out how to mediate a lifelong disinterest in classical music because i realized i could get into a specific conductor and see a much bigger picture than by just picking a composer. i chose bernstein because i love a 20th century sensibility

now i have to listen to his mahler 4 once a day or else i start to get antsy

last month my partner and i moved to portland (oregon) and are finally getting settled in... if anyone knows anything cool we gots to check out, let me know! i love the foggy

it feels incredibly good to be back on the west coast after seven years

game is stupid and good

next weekend!! click + drag yourselves over to boshi's place for a celebration of the computer mouse and other pointer devices as important and under-appreciated game controllers! we'll be focusing on novel and unexpected uses of the mouse as well as some custom modified mice.

been mapmaking in hammer editor the last week, and it’s affirming my desire that unity had some kind of brush-based level building solution.. unreal just got scythe editor, do i really have to settle with probuilder? graaaahhhh!

and i am sure that probuilder is perfectly adequate; i have just only seen it used in the context of grayboxing and prototyping and not finished level geometry

hi guys its been a minute since i’ve had some cool new images to show. i have been in the 3d modeling/gamedev mines. *turns 90 degrees* my bad *turns -90 degrees*

if there's something unnerving i've tried to meditate on lately, it's using the words "content" and "media." there's a remedy for that i've tried to administer: expand my definition of art, and stop deprecating my imagination by treating things as "content" >

if i made something with love, and all someone (who still really enjoyed it) had to say was that it was "peak," would i feel deflated? the hard part is that, currently, i'm self-conscious of being reductive myself by saying all this now >

i think the fear comes from that when i, inevitably, as a developer, want to be able to receive some kind of income for the things i create, will my work no longer be seen as art, and be subject to the scrutiny of content? does the "get that bag" mindset extend that far? thanks for listening

but this is a two-way street: if a creator treats their work like content, and presents it like content, then is that how it's going to be? consumed, digested, and passed? >

i think those using words lends itself to the irony-posting (or sincere?) that goes into haphazardly calling things "peak" or "mid." if we can be reductive in thinking of the things we enjoy as a Prepared-For-Taste product, then it allows us to be reductive in how we weigh it in our heart and mind >

is it strange to go from having No investment in monster hunter to suddenly having 130 hours in rise over the last three weeks…? i went from being a total noob to knowing so much about these monsters. it doesn’t seem natural

this was mostly done as a tech test, seeing how closely i could create faux-pointilism in blender using cycles: low samples, high pixel filter, noisy textures
