Practically, it’s an easier lift to fully delegitimize the state through marginal increases in non-participation than it would be to usurp ruling class control by vastly increasing participation in an electoral system whose power sits below theirs.

There’s a calculated risk to be taken with these technologies. Can we extract collective capacity from them faster than they can be used to consolidate control? I think yes, but not if we’re distracted by arguments about whether or not they should exist at all. We aren’t in a position to act on

use. We have to assume OpenAI and Anthropic are wantonly flaunting their own privacy policies, of course, but we can’t make the mistake of treating that as being THAT much different from what already existed. What’s changed is that capabilities that were once only available to glassy-eyed true

believer ideologically capitalist para-state operators are now being used by the impulsive, deluded, narcissistic ruling class overlords. A mad king with a wizard’s staff is only going to destroy his own power faster and more spectacularly than a regular mad king.

Signal has a CLI tool that can do the same for every interaction you had or saw in the resistance group chat you’re in. How certain are you that there aren’t any agents or assets of the state in it? The NSA has taps on the internet trunk lines, and probably backdoors in w/e encryption protocol you

Literally, actually unbelievably naive. As in I don’t believe you actually believe what you’re saying is meaningfully the truth

i don't mean to sound dismissive about your concern. there are some... not great things happening in the party. i am not saying the party is uniformly pro trans. i just do not think the entire party is about to flip overnight.

This one has to have had read up on the earth mission in state of the art for the name to land, but it’s a p good one if you can tolerate the shoehorn. You can imagine it being all smug at parties, unsubtly criticizing the choices made there.

I think a lot of people haven’t fully given up on the idea that things can get better before they get much, much worse. Gotta dispel that idea, folks. No more kicking the can down the road. We gotta take the world back while there’s still a world to take.

I reckon the most important ability to cultivate as a materialist, socialist, communist, or (if you *insist*) leftist is to recognize reaction in yourself and kill it. You have to be sprinting away from your reflex to make things stay the same or go back to the way they were. There’s nothing sacred,

nothing that will or should be untouched by the progress of history. You have to build *everything* on top of material critique. As soon as you find yourself becoming invested in some aspect of the world as it is, you have to find the source of that and kill it.

Been thinking more and more that maybe we missed the boat for Leninism. Wondering if maybe we’re to the point a vanguard is neither possible nor desirable. Could it be that the way forward is to prepare for mass-proletarianization, and focus on building class consciousness and collective capacity-

in anticipation of the vanguard party being pushed forward by the masses, rather than pulling the masses with them? Hmm… not articulating this well at all

We’re so fucked. All the energy being put into anti-ai work is useless. No one is going to listen to a bunch of barely-organized workers that pose no real threat saying what will be heard as “cripple the economy because we’re scared of/don’t like it”. Meanwhile, the blood drinking, child-abusing

sociopathic narcissists ruling class figure out amongst themselves how to maximize and allocate the control the technology gives them. We have to formulate a line that gets everyone facing the enemy instead of each other. Dogmatic anti and pro-ai people in particular need to be willing to compromise

I believe we can have a secure border and a clear pathway to citizenship and we can do it without a rogue, illegal agency like ICE.

The apparatus of collective meaning-making is now literally fixed capital. There’s a lot of abstract, subjective “firsts” that genAI is claiming, but I think the most significant one that there’s a single point of control over how we determine what anything means.

The shit is not going anywhere. It’s going to be subsumed and integrated into everything a computer can be squeezed into. There will be no such thing as rejecting AI. Participating in society will be contingent on it. The choice will be either primitivism or allowing yourself to be shaped

We have to steal fire from the gods, we have to steal the things that will be used to make meaning and make our own. We have to exclude capital from the moment of interpellation, and replace it with ourselves.

Which, come to think, is exactly why it’s worth the effort.

My analysis falls out of my pre-existing interpretation of dialectical materialism and orthodox Marxism basically effortlessly. The hard part is articulating it, and not giving up in frustration.

If someone can express themselves by externalizing something that they couldn’t before, that’s a capability worth reproducing at some, socially-determined, cost. The fact that capital incentivizes using any capability to produce wasteful garbage is nothing new, and worth any cost to struggle against

Dr Elisabeth Kosters@elisabethkosters.bsky.social

No, Marjory, you’re not “pro-life”, you prefer to deny a woman to decide over her own body. Rep Ilhan Omar isn’t “pro-abortion”, she defends a woman’s right to decide over her own body. Nobody, literally nobody, is “pro-abortion”. Abortion is sometimes the best decision, no matter how conflicted.

This means sustainably co-evolving with our environment. We have to radically consider what “socially necessary” means and refers to.

LLMs deserve no more or less moral or ethical consideration than farms, factories, cell networks, or any other of the things we make. We should be building our systems so that they output the things we need as a function of their own self-reproduction. Maybe stewarded, but not dominated

The whole division between “natural” and “artificial/human-made” is a historical anomaly whose course is just about run.
