Bus-priority 🚌🚍

I am gonna make a thread of bus stop signage I see. I’d like to see NJ Transit improve way finding and signage at bus stops and rail stations for buses. This is an example from Wuppertal, North Rhine-Westphalia.

Well here are some ridership numbers from last year for Market/Broad

Massive amount of people waiting at every corner of Broad and Market for buses in Downtown Newark.

Too bad London didn’t consult NYC about cycle lanes on Oxford St before they closed it off to cars and are forcing cyclists to dismount. They did such a great job with Broadway just north of Union Square. Although to be clear, I’m not really familiar with Oxford St. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cq...

If I were talking to someone on the phone who was in a public area and they had me on speaker phone, I’d kindly ask them to call me back. Of course, the sound from the speaker is so distorted and you can’t really understand a thing the person on the speaker is saying.

Had an amazing day biking around Stockholm for 4 and a half hours. Really good bike infrastructure. Some gaps here and there, but you can tell they’ve made some really nice recent improvements. They really try to keep bike lanes open during construction.

We are SO THRILLED that New York City has passed the Romanch's Law banning horse-drawn carriage rides! These horses were living in deplorable conditions and made to work hours upon hours a day, and had very little vet care. We are so excited to finally see them be free!

Prob took Waymo >20 min to clear their robot. The location was ~mile from Waymo's main and best staffed SF depot, so ~walking speed time to repair. This kind of incident should be regulated to the level of near prohibition, imo, but few regulators require reporting. Over trust and don't verify.

This was so crazy. This bus stop on the E18. I mean I guess we have bus stops on motorways in NJ, but this is like an interstate highway in a sense. I saw there was a Tunnelbana station right next to it, so of course I had to get off.

I gave up my seat for a couple with a pram and some guy ended up taking it.

It’s too bad they ended this pilot. Almost everyone admits double parking is a problem, but the mayor said “it was confusing”. Just say “it’s unfair to luxury SUV drivers”. Meanwhile, the 4th most popular bus line in NJ is delayed by these persecuted luxury SUV drivers.

There were these people trying to interview people with a camera, and I literally walked past them two times hoping they would ask me. But they totally ignored me! 😭

Okay but Stockholm is building a lot of bike infrastruttura. Check out this bike parking island used for traffic calming.

Bye New Jersey! 👋🏽 One more ride on NJ Transit Route 320 to NYC! Highly recommend looking into hotels in Secaucus if the ones in NYC are too expensive. This route operates every 10-15 mins. and it connects several chained-brand hotels, a park & ride lot & the Port Authority Bus Terminal. 🚌

Stockholm has a few different modes of rail transport. The Roslagsbanan (signs in English say light rail) terminate with 3 lines at Stockholm östra station in the NE corner of the city centre. The older trains are so cute.

Imagine if instead these were failing Republican business owners who owned diners. Democrats in Trenton would have handed them $25k in tax credits.

I really admired these bus stops near my hotel is Oslo (both on either side of the street). With a very frequent bus.

The subway system here in Stockholm is crazy. All the lines meet at the central station. It’s total chaos transferring between lines. I would have yelled at two people who were walking slowly down the left side of the stairs as they were looking at their phones, if I were in NY. But I’m a guest so..

Spent the day on a 7 hour FlixBus ride from Oslo to Stockholm. Really wasn’t that bad. It was pretty spacious and nobody sat next to me. I have no idea why there doesn’t seem to be direct train service between these two cities.

Today I took metro line 4 & 69 bus out to this lake. This was wee bit more dodgy than yesterday’s trip. Apple Maps said it was a 20 minute worked, which turned out to be an hour of confusing treacherous forest trails where I nearly slipped, tripped and twisted my ankle. But it was all worth it.

#JCcrashes 😡 Montgomery & Merseles. This morning a high schooler crossing Montgomery was hit by a motorcycle. This is an important school route, but Montgomery & Merseles is a wide, fast, and dangerous intersection, and the crossing guard often tells students to run when crossing. /

Meeting tonight in Bayonne for the JFK BRT study 6pm-8pm at the Bayonne Public Library on 697 Ave C (at 31st). You can take the 119, 10, 81L or X or a short walk from the 34th St HBLR station.

Here in Oslo, just saw a group of 4 young fare inspectors get off at the bus stop I was at. Then got on another bus. Then I got on the next bus and they got on at the next stop. It was very easy and efficient. Especially on a corridor with multiple lines.

Arrived in Oslo this morning and took line 5 metro to this beautiful lake at the end of civilisation
