The real unfair competition women are being forced into with men is having women's sports constantly separated off as a distinct event which is made to compete commercially with much better funded and socially and institutionally enfranchised men's sporting events & found inadequate by that standard

now that i’m back in pdx i’m showing up to anarchist events again which is SO incredible but, oops, turns out i still have debilitating social anxiety. so i’m just kinda hobbling around the edges of events with my cane for a bit while avoiding everyone’s eye-contact before leaving again 😬

i’m just gonna keep doing it (showing up places) until it stops filling me with horror and dread. but in the meantime portland anarchists are gonna behold the heights of butch awkwardness. please be patient, it’s because i’m highly traumatized 🫠

Charlottesville is the key inflection point that stopped fascist consolidation in the US. Anti fascists stopped the consolidation of brown shirts which was the domino which didn't fall allowing Trump appointees to defect without fear and dooming J6 to farce.

At the time liberals like Klein and Wynn did NOT even remotely grasp the magnitude of the threat during Trump 1. We only got out thru a combination of i) antifa brutally crushing fascist networks, ii) trump's incompetence and random media filters, iii) defections of Trump's appointees.

All of this downstream of trans people just existing in local community sports clubs and so on trying to get on with participating in society as equals. Not a widespread campaign to Take Over Sports but essentially just getting along with everyone else.

You can skip the gender metaphysics debate entirely if you say, "I don't care about that. I care about the material consequences trans people experience for living the way they want to," and then hammer the point home that no amount of gender metaphysics can ever justify transfemicide.

Lee Cicuta reposted

I do think that a major failure point of a lot of mainstream trans activism is the focus on responding to attacks on trans people in the same arena that those attacks are being made, i.e., indulging the notion that this is a philosophical debate over gender metaphysics and trying to win that one.

Meanwhile, monogamy myths tell us that anything other than a lifelong relationship is a failure, on top of generally representing a critical material and social loss due to how much people rely on their romantic partnerships (especially if they're women).

Both family discourse and mononormativity contribute heavily to this situation. Severing family or family-like connections is regarded as a moral failing, since you supposedly have a duty to your family. Anything else is considered disloyal. Many others, meanwhile, depend on their families.

RIP Bioware and thank you for your service in creating the character Isabela the Raider Queen of the Eastern Seas. She made the fact of my lesbianism more obvious than it already was so even I could finally see it. A debt that can never be repaid 🙏🖤

it’s actually kind of ridiculous that it took *multiple* playthroughs of Dragon Age 2—in all of which I romanced Isabela—to figure it out. didn’t even know i was in the closet. kissed her on the screen for the 5th time and was like “OHhhh i get it now. Lesbian!”

special mention to Liara T’Soni, who probably would have done this for me too if i had played Mass Effect first. definitely some of the most impactful games of my life, and where I got my love for RPGs! very bummed to see to see Bioware destroyed :(

it’s very weird to be a theorist who focuses on the politics of interpersonal relationships from the angle i do. many others in the field are like “how can we keep/repair all the relationships” and i’m here like “how can we facilitate the end of all the relationships that desperately need ending?”

i see many many problems in social disposability and isolation that *definitely* need to be talked about. however, to my understanding, the wider problem is *not* that too many relationships end too quickly, but that many that should end (or at least drastically change form) do not or cannot.

divorces are good. breakups are good. ending connections with family is good. ending friendships is good. it all hurts. it all sucks. but the alternative, which is people *not* being able to leave relationships they don’t want to be in, is so much worse. and it is a much more entrenched problem.

it’s actually feels really difficult to talk about dynamics of disposability, social isolation, or even harassment productively because no matter how carefully you speak on it you’ll get folks popping up like “YES and THIS is why it’s insidious when people have boundaries or stop being my friend” 🫠

i’ve taken the post asking for help with my wheelchair fund down because it has reached the goal! 🥳 just wanted to let you all know :) thank you SO MUCH to everyone who donated to help me out. it is such a relief to get this medical debt paid off 🙏💕

another election season. always a special time for liberals who restrict their political participation to symbolically giving their power away to a politician by voting every couple of years to scold the most dedicated agitators and organizers i know for “not caring about fascism.”

i don’t care if you vote. i don’t think it helps and i don’t think it hurts. as far as poltical action goes, it’s just a few degrees off of useless. have at it or don’t. but it’s not meaningful participation. it’s not resistance. it doesn’t elevate you above those who don’t engage in that ritual.

i’m not voting for your favorite Democrat and likely never will. no amount of liberals screaming in my mentions can make me insecure in that choice because i and the people i organize with know that i am rigorously engaged with the political on a daily basis, and that’s what actually matters to me.

i don’t think it’s shameful not to vote. i think it’s shameful to suggest that voting is a meaningful act of political participation. it isn’t. i think it’s shameful to *only* vote. if “voting” is your only claim to political participation, you’re actually extremely checked-out imo.

Border regime creates the context for coercive control. It is designed to entrap racialized women and children: either under the control of the State or under the control of their abusers who leverage the threat of State violence to keep their victims trapped and silent.

NEW: The women were victims of domestic abuse. That’s what they told police officers, attorneys and anyone who would listen. It didn’t matter. They were all taken to an immigration detention center.

The women in the article didn’t call the police, their abusers called the police on *them* when they were trying to escape the abuse and accused the women of being the abusers. DARVO works because it flows smoothly with the logic of authoritarian systems and their shared goal of dominating women.

This is NOT how the system responds when racialized women call the police to report abusive men. To those calls, they *also* respond by incarcerating and deporting the victims of abuse. Again, because this is the purpose of the system. Intimate violence is a key component of its function.

This is why authoritarian systems will NEVER stop intimate violence against women and children, only enable and escalate it. Intimate authoritarians will always find ways to use their power and their victims’ vulnerability to leverage those systems towards coercive control.

Gatekeeping isn't inherently good or bad, it's an activity which is subject to political contest over who gets to use space how. Spaces that are safe incubators for minority welfare and spaces for preserving dominant social hierarchies both depend on it and we need to be able to tell the difference.

it is of course transphobic bigotry but it should be pointed out that the lie “people need the right healthcare for their biological sex” kills trans people. trans women get breast cancer at far higher rates than cis men. trans men get prostate cancer. hrt changes your sex.

It would IMO be better if MPs had not utterly deranged their own brains on Twitter dot com, wildly radicalising themselves and each other.

And, arguably, this was Biden 2020, people held there nose and voted with truly historic turn out, highest turn out in history of those numbers being run, and they failed to prosecute, undo any of trump's most damaging policies, started a new red scare and set the table for the fourth Reich
