COTW with some thoughts about the D pairings. They try so hard to accommodate Matheson. Guhle and Carrier are excellent together. Hutson is best with Dobson; Dobson is best with Hutson. Who's left? Let the simple solution in front of you be the solution.

Fowler stopped 34 of 35 shots for a .971 save percentage. His Goals Saved Above Expected was a sparkling 2.93.   He moves to 6.3 GSAE for the season. Fowler moves into fifth place in that category in the league. 21 years of age.

And the other half of MSL's axiom is don't take unnecessary penalties. Anderson takes a penalty with four guys defending behind him. These are the margins of wins versus losses.

I just talked about what does the game need from you and Caufield saw some open ice and he got on the wrong side of the puck. It doesn't take much. You got to have the defensive instincts in defensive spots.

The other day when leading 3-1 the Canadiens lost. After it, MSL said 'what does the game need from you'. That night they gave up odd-man rushes and dumb penalties. What does the game need from you? Not chaos.

I'm ready to say it. Arber Xhekaj has arrived. He's an NHL defender. You can't take it from him anymore. Xhekaj's biggest issue this season has been his partner. When he has a top quality partner like tonight, he's absolutely rock solid.

Fowler really looks good. Like I mean technically. He's a really solid goalie. He's the type of goalie that will be prone to fewer slumps with all that technical skill.

So that's the Newhook line that couldn't handle the Schiefele line and now it's the Kapanen line that can't handle the Schiefele line. They're a one line hockey team, but what a line.

I don’t know why people have to be negative about these outdoor games. The stadium is packed and people are having a good time. That’s the entire point.

Update: They've put some nice shifts together and have that up to 47. Got to develop a little chemistry here. Keep going.

Guess which line has an Expected Goals of 3.7. Yikes.

That's where Slafkovsly belongs. Down low. That near the blue line stuff just means giveaways. That will be a better PP just for that alone. On the minus side, no Nick.

My scouting report (from the worst hockey scout in the universe.) Mittelstadt looks GREAT. Brilliant assist on Laval's second goal, more than solid defensively. What a steal he could be at 197th in the draft.

We need to start talking a bit more about Guhle and Carrier. They're turning into a shutdown pair. The value of that is immense and there hasn't been on in a long time in Montreal. 65 XG share again. They elevate each other's game and get tough minutes against the other team's best. Huge bonus

Play was deemed dead. Lol. There was no whistle but it was deemed dead. NHL is such a vibe, Man. Everyone saving face. Watch the other leagues. They attempt to get it right. No back up wrong calls.

2 assists for Hage. 14 points in 6 games. Michigan wins 4-3 in Denver. Wolverines are 6 and 0 to start the season and are number one in the nation.

Dominance by the top line. Bolduc continues to up his game a level. Kapanen strong in his first. Dach his best. Carrier and Guhle are becoming a shutdown pair. Carrier has never looked better and Guhle is the reason. They belong together. Reinbacher with a fairly good recovery after the gaff.

#NHL Game Score Impact Card for Montréal Canadiens on 2026-10-17:

Another amazing Suzuki line shift. I've never seen this number for a game. The Suzuki line Expected Goals share is 99.3 per cent. If the other team puts no one on the ice, it's only .7 higher. Ha.

The PP would improve by 5 points with just the change of not Slafkovsky high on the half wall. Every time he gets it there, they pressure him, and he turns it over.

Guhle and Carrier are the real deal. No way they should break that pair up. That's a winning pair. I've never seen either of these players play better.

Big game tonight for #Habs prospect Michael Hage, he and Michigan take on the current behemoth of NCAA hockey, Denver, who have taken 3 of the last 5 national championships.

Gonna sound rough, but they pay me to say it. It's very difficult to win when the goalie isn't up to it. They need to play the hot hand of Fowler until Dobes gets it figured out.

That wasn't deflected late. Last night, Fowler had no chance on any of them with a deflection only 10 feet in front of him. This is straight in from 55 feet. And you can see that he made himself small on it. All he has to do is instinctively spread his wings and he's got a save.
