The Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries are now headed to Game 6 of the WNBA Finals. And the teams’ fans will get to enjoy this nailbiter over either a sad desk salad or perhaps a coffee and bagel. https://bit.ly/4i6IPv4

There’s a home in my neighborhood in Indianapolis that already has a big Brazilian flag and a skeleton dressed in a Lula ⭐️ shirt as part of their Halloween display 🇧🇷

Making it a breakfast game for GSV fans (and I consider myself a Dream fan!) is just wrong, man… they could win the championship during your 11am meeting. But what do I know, it IS the Hawks and it IS the second week of the NBA season and it’s important not to even potentially make the men feel bad!

Chicago Tribune@chicagotribune.com

The WNBA has moved Game 6 of the finals between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries to a 12:30 p.m. tipoff Thursday at the home area of the Atlanta Hawks so that the NBA can keep its previously scheduled primetime contest that day.

This is how I know what we’re doing is working: they’re now mad that education exists.

(including scholars, teachers, researchers, etc) who critiques DI is just biased. She gets more right wing by the day and it feels like she’s specifically inching closer to explicitly turning against higher ed & teachers altogether. As if being hired by the Trump admin wasn’t a big enough red flag!

I have to think about Emily’s work much more than I’d like to bc of both my job and personal connections, and I think a lot about whether sincerity in engagement is itself ethical in this case. Today, the answer from me is: no.

I emailed Patrick Healy, assistant managing editor for standards and trust at NYT, to ask why their story about a House report with new details of rape allegations against the President of the United States included neither those details, nor a single use of the word "rape." archive.is/1s9AM

Currently trying to get my pregnant friends to consider “Ilya” as a gender neutral (Americanized) name and wondering on how many fronts I am participating in violence

Been re-reading Millett’s Sexual Politics today & admiring her rejoinder re: essentializing gender via scientific discourses that, esp in the case of intersex people, “science” often explicitly REJECTS physiological facts in order to uphold gender/sex binary. Intersex rights are human rights.

Jess O'Thomson@jessothomson.co.uk

Today is Intersex Awareness Day. I am intersex – and did not find out until I was 26! Intersex people are also impacted by the decision in FWS, but this is much less talked about. Intersex people continue to be subjected to non-consensual medical interventions. Intersex rights are human rights.

Learning does not happen when people are hungry. Starving children is another way of depriving them of education.

Brazil going the way of South Korea. Basically around the world women are desperately trying to keep power out of the hands of incredibly stupid fascistic grifters while men keep trying to hand it over. Men are an embarrassing cringe gender.

I’ve been working on some diff-in-diff style estimates for voucher-induced public school enrollment decline net of loss due to population shifts. Ohio implies 0.1-0.3% annual, similar to other states. AZ and TX are bigger: 0.5-0.7%—still under 1% annual. www.the74million.org/article/ohio...

the74million.orgOhio Spent More Than a Billion Dollars on Private School Vouchers This YearFor the second year in a row, the state has spent over a billion dollars on private school vouchers — despite funding shortfalls for public schools.

We have to stop doing this. Ending evil practices and industries… is going to mean losing jobs. Those should not be mindlessly and uncritically equivocated.

Interventions to promote risk-taking will never succeed until grades are eliminated. As long as the goal is to get an A (or its equivalent), students' rational response will be to *minimize* risk. (And then we blame *them* for lacking a "growth mindset" or some such.) tinyurl.com/27nch2vt

Kudos to NBC New York for saying it without equivocation: "The US is to blame for the world falling behind in the fight against climate change."

Yeah, the field of edu leadership has been pumped with business degrees (and Ed Leadership degrees have turned into business degrees) so the fact that the (non-teaching) people at the helm of our schools are ignorant about education shouldn’t be surprising. NHJ knew what she was about to do.

Concerned by how many people, people who that are otherwise seemingly thoughtful people, are taking this moment to use being gay/queer as a punchline when talking about Trump. I know the hypocrisy matters, but if him being gay is the joke, you’re just being homophobic.
