That's what happened in the first round. They want a trump kind of leader. The US media esp meta and X emboldened them that why Trump is keeping quiet for a moment till the results are right

the right-wingers want one vote "per family" so the women will shut up and listen to their man and well you can see why they want to do it my mother votes right-wing and says it won't happen and ignores all the absurd shit they cook up

“… in any decently-run universe, this guy would've been out on his all-powerful ass a long time ago. And.. I say "this guy", because I firmly believe, looking at these results, that if there is a God, it has to be a man. No woman could or would ever fuck things up like this.” - George Carlin

There is blatant voter suppression happening right now in Brazil: flights cancelled and buses suspended to Northeastern capitals where Lula holds the majority, polling stations changed to thousands of kms away last-minute, voters in London told they need to go to Edinburgh… This is criminal.

Nothing on anything like that scale. I think the main effect in 2024 was that women were slightly more likely to vote Conservative than men. Some variation also in support for smaller parties. But not esp. important in the grander scheme of things.

Fascinating. Womren have consistently voted to the left of men here, especially if they are Black or young. Not always significantly, especially for white women. I appear to be an anomaly.

There used to be a gender gap where men were more left than women (presumably for the usual reasons wrt a v. masculinist labour movement). That disappeared in recent decades--and the new gap is still about women being more left than men, since men are more likely to vote for Reform candidates.

I'm just back from a food tasting afternoon in the church hall. There was a Brazilian lady there I was chatting to her about the election she was a definite Lula fan, when asked her view on Bolsnerro she said he makes Farage seem like Jeremy Corbyn.

It's a similar problem to here but in this case Im guessing it became way more extreme when Lula went after the gambling apps.

Men want to have control over others (authoritarian). Women want to have inclusion with others (democracy). No wonder men have historically had their boots on women's necks and wombs.

Good breakdown, and much to think about! Personally, I prefer the non-binary way, where otherness is respected and outsiders can live freely from the fear of being controlled or forced to become part of hegemonic systems

would be super consistent with Brazil's growth history and Claudia Goldin's whole "rapid growth accelerates norm change and compresses intergenerational gendered conflict evolution". Looking like S Korea over here.

True... but still. 39.2% defeats 35.0% with ease, and 61.7% is also a significant margin above 58.9%. (However, it is possible that the actual outcome is different than the polling prediction showed)

Besides being a proponent of fascism, patriarchy, violence and subordination, Flavio has unappealing habits- going to orgies with crooked vaccine salesmen during the pandemic, being caught on camera saying "I am the president's son, f me", defending pro bono a child killer cop.

Yes, and cratering of approval ratings awaits him. He has lied too much, is unpleasant, he has to betray someone. Will it be the bankers he promised 250 billion in cuts? Or social services? The workers he promised not to send to work seven days a week? Or his buddies in the business?

he shows up, claims his dad did something good (he was forced to or it actually happened during a different government and his family claims ownership) and then goes "Lula bad" when asked about anything he just repeats "Lula bad" and he gets votes because people are insane now

A random death ray that took out men coming out of pubs late at night, leaving football grounds, being stopped for driving offences and being condemned to prison might do for starters.
