She‘s fabulous! Can’t wait to read this

Just saw that probably my top nonfiction work of the fall is arriving this week: Alexis Shotwell’s “Liberation is Other People.” I’m not a book club person, but if I was … ebbooksellers.com/item/SLzAqBF...

Are you waking up with a tingle right now as you read the news, basking in the glow of a world that might actually be able to change? You, yes, 🫵you🫵 may be hot for revolution™️

What does it mean to be hot for revolution—to feel a desire to transform the world in your belly and your bones? Here's my latest, on how erotic desire feeds political agency. I draw on AIDS activism, disability justice & other movements against sexual oppression. philpapers.org/archive/WARH...

The exclusion of the European black derby team from the European roller derby cup next year is a fucking scandal and huge kudos to Amazing Disgrace for speaking up about it. medium.com/@thederbyape...

Teaching today was just fabulous. Love that for the first real week of reading and discussion. We talked double binds and how to square the possibility that oppressive systems may harm everyone but only oppress some

Basically teaching social philosophy seminars is like hanging out with all my faves. This week it's Kristie Dotson and Sukaina Hirji 💜 I just taught Dotson's "How Is This Paper Philosophy" with Toni Cade Bambara's "Education of a Storyteller" (fabulous pairing!) Tomorrow: Marilyn Frye with Hirji 🌱

In honor of Julie Dash's 74th birthday today, you should watch "Daughters of the Dust." And it's free on Tubi It was only 35 years ago that she was the first Black woman to have a movie with a theatrical run

You ever heard of Julie Dash? Some of you undoubtedly have, but quite a few I'd imagine not. Julie Dash is the first Black woman (ever) to have a full-length film with a theatrical release in the United States. In 1991. There's a book as well. Julie Dash turns 73 years old today

I did not like this book. My review, which some have called "insightful" and "well-written" (and, I will add, extremely fair and rigorously argued), is coming out in the spring.

Here's another story of what rampant corruption is doing to the USA: this time a mayor whose primary source of income is a fancy private club he owns connected to the town racetrack. As a result, he ties the survival of the town to his own financial survival, and people die when floodwaters come.

ProPublica@propublica.org

NEW: After wildfires scarred the Sacramento Mountains above Ruidoso, New Mexico, the community was under heightened threat of catastrophic flooding. Officials were aware but continued to promote the town to tourists who were oblivious to the danger.

"Everything we do has got to contribute to the struggle. Because everything THEY do is grinding us into dust. And we will not be ground." 👏We will not be ground!👏

Me trying to get my social contract class excited about Hobbes: “You see, before we started reading and raging about random ppl’s bad takes on the internet, we used to just read and rage about this one guy’s bad take….”

I’d like to mute the entire genre of posts on here that just share awful things ppl are saying over on X. Like yes, I know. That’s why I’m not there right now

Perfectly happy not to know what the BBC or whoever is saying right now if they‘ve decided to report the news through the funhouse mirror of the Nazi discourse factory

People think a world without cops looks like the purge and instead, every moment where it can briefly happen there is partying.

First day of the semester! What worked: —showing enthusiasm about being there and about all the cool stuff we’re gonna read —using Audre Lorde‘s poetry teaching pedagogy to set the tone —the idea that philosophy is storytelling, and social contract theory is telling particularly odd stories

Social contract theory is reading Monique Wittig alongside Hobbes for next week lol Black feminism is reading Toni Cade Bambara‘s “Education of a Storyteller” and Kristie Dotson “How Is This Paper Philosophy?”

My seminar on “Oppression and Resistance” started well today too, talking about how we can examine the world on the level of structures and also on the level of experience, and how these two approaches often produce different explanations.

My book is finally going to production tho there’s no timeline yet. If you don’t want to go on Polymarket, place your bets here on the projected publication date.
