Actually knowing things is good; dunking on people for getting confirmation instead of just going with vibes seems anti-social.

“Expand to continue reading” exclusively in the sense that I must grow to take in new ideas.

Cabel Sasser@cabel.panic.com

why is it that I need to "expand to continue reading". why.

It’s unfortunate that being shitty and condescending is the part that people like, about whatever candidate on whatever side of the spectrum.

These kinds of purity rituals are very bad for everyone involved. They don’t stop — they only get more intense — until people stand up to the would-be purifiers.

jesus this hank green ai drama is so sad and bleak, the dude is using AI in extremely sane and safe and reasonable ways, and so many of his fans are just on a purity crusade over it here’s a recent reddit post and hank’s reply

Seeing these claims gain traction in the NYT is making me lose faith in the NYT rather than lose faith in Andy Masley.

Andy Masley@andymasley.bsky.social

Infrasound harm from data centers make it to the NYT. Unless the data center's sound is so loud that you can feel your body physically shaking like you're at a concert, I don't think this has any impact on your health at all. Been crazy to see this idea take off. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/17/u...

I'm also appreciative of @moskov.goodventures.org for funding Andy's work — even though it cuts against what Dustin might want to see happen. It's rare to see people devoted to truth as a pursuit and goal in itself, like both of these folks are.

Again wishing Blue Sky allowed users to silence retweets. Retweets without quotes are 99% low quality, often political ragebait, and by definition include no thoughts from the people I follow. Not sure why this isn't an option already.

Insisting you know the motives of your political enemies is pretending to be able to read minds. It’s corrosive to public discourse. It also makes it harder to win, because you stop being able to understand why people support the person you’ve vilified. I wish people wouldn’t do it.

I agree with my blue sky friends about the rise of antisemitism on the bird site. Sadly it’s from the left and the right, including prominent folks like Matt Stoller.

this happened on twitter in 2013-21, it's happening here now, and it's strange to witness it

People shifting their views to accord with what they think the social consensus is, except their idea of consensus is formed mostly by incessant discourse with deeply unhealthy wackos on a niche politics website. Many such cases

There’s a group of people on Twitter who use social media as a place to connect where you’re allowed to hold a wide range of opinions and still be loved and respected. It feels really good to have that kind of space and community around you. I hope Will can find that, either online or off.

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

The problem with social media is that you’re only allowed to hold opinions in batches. If you believe X and Y, you must also believe Z, which is atmospherically similar to X and Y and believed by all the same people. If you don’t do this, everyone hates you. It makes actual thinking impossible.

DOCTOR: I told him he needed to get out to a show, that was how he would cure his depression. CHOTINER: So you learned this technique in school? DR: No, not— listen it was good advice. Pagliacci was in town. C: Right. Is it standard to give advice before learning a patient’s name? DR: Now look

What are some good people to follow for someone trying to make their way to bluesky and who doesn't want to stew in politics rage all day?

I'm seeing a lot of use of the word "Israeli" as some kind of disqualifying adjective from folks on the left and I'm not sure whether that's technically antisemitism, but it's very ugly and I'm against it. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Gotta make a list of people for the Group Formerly Known As TPOT to make this an easier transition. Otherwise it’s a real pain to figure out who’s here.

I also signed up for an in-person AT session locally the day before. It'll be interesting to compare San Francisco AT with Nobes-style AT.

My default: ask about what the other person likes, what they find the most resonant in their lives. I’m interested in: how meditation can help you see and understand your own consciousness; how meditation interacts with somatic practices; what else is out there that helps people feel free.

You are up to date.
