Idk who needs to hear this, but the ENTIRE point of the capitalist system is to extract wealth from working class people and consolidate it in an extreme minority. As long as we operate as a capitalist society, wealth will continue to be redistributed to the owning class.

there’s no middle ground position on this. either musk is forcibly rooted out of government infrastructure or every war proceeds at the whims and dictates of a generational buffoon

It's just loser shit for losers

Alex Hern@hern.bsky.social

do think there's a danger of looking at extremely cool shit like a car driving upside down then doing a kickflip before landing, and convincing yourself it's actually lame because the guy funding it is a white supremacist

Alex is putting the cart before the horse here, claiming that we can like "cool" things, even from white supremacists, but its the very fact that he is a white supremacist that makes everything he does extremely uncool.

For my American counterparts who may not understand the full context of what's happening here, this is deeply embarrassing for Adam. Danielle Smith is the skidmark of Alberta, a premier (governor) who is vastly disliked across the country.

Sen. Adam Schiff@schiff.senate.gov

My first stop was Alberta, the only province not boycotting Californian wines. I spoke to provincial leaders about the importance of the Canadian market to California farmers and the importance of continuing close collaboration on dairy, beef and energy trade.

Lmao yes Adam, the US is our only source of wine, we are dry without US wine. Californian wines are mostly dogshit anyway. Don't know if I've ever elected to buy an American wine.

Sen. Adam Schiff@schiff.senate.gov

Without American wine on Canadian shelves, Canadians are also missing out on tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue they would obtain from selling our wine.

If this is going to be the discourse for the next 2.5 years, I'm almost certainly deleting Bluesky.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Look at the shabby state and increasingly authoritarian trajectory of the country and ask yourself if we can endure 2 more years of a lawless Trump administration wreaking havoc with no check from Congress, then vote accordingly. This is not the time for a protest vote or purity politics.

I love all these fuckin conservative boomers patting themselves on the back for saying shit like "I've voted conservative all my life, but I know Mark Carney is the right guy for the job." like Mark Carney is any further left than fucking Harper lmao

Tech dorks freaking out about sentient Ai eliminating humans when we should actually worry about an inept text prediction algorithm running air traffic systems.

You’re right—that plane shouldn’t have gone there. That’s my fault, and I should have made sure there wasn’t a terminal in the landing path. Would you like me to call emergency services, or assist with lining up takeoffs?

Hey, I notice you're trying to influence political candidates during an election. That's really inconvenient, politically speaking. Wouldn't it be better to wait until after the election, when the candidate has everything they need from you, and you have zero leverage?

it’s pretty obvious that a lot of people remember that COVID lockdowns were unpleasant and from there just extrapolate that they were therefore bad policy

Removing the profit motive from an essential human need means people have greater access to food.

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

Politics aside, do people believe city-run grocery stores with deeply discounted prices are a good POLICY idea? What are they intended to accomplish, in your view? What problem do they solve? Would you implement them if not running for election? I'm sincerely curious in people's answers here.

Elon Musk, owner of X, has called the editor of the Economist "a traitor to the West, plain and simple" after her recent interview with him. He now argues that "anyone who opposes remigration is a traitor" Musk has been socialising violence since Aug25: "fight or die, that's what it comes down to"

Gonna be hard to find Mitch at the hospital when he currently resides in the morgue.

Kongou@kongoubongou.bsky.social

Governor Beshear... Get in your car. Drive to the hospital. Demand to speak to the Senator. No more waffling, no more waiting for them to reply. "I see the Senator now, or I assume he's not coming back and call an election when I leave."

Economics is not a science lol what a painfully stupid conflation.

oliver@eikopf.com

very tired of pretending that dismissing modern economics is somehow more reasonable than dismissing vaccines. if you’re not an expert, you don’t get to pick and choose parts of a field to believe! you have no way to tell between legitimate and illegitimate results in that field!
