The latest Taiwan discourse is wild. Apparently to some the principle of self-determination of peoples only applies to groups who desire independence from a state in the Western power bloc, and if from a state not aligned with the West they're CIA plants or something and deserve to be crushed.

This explains quite a lot about why Gottheimer never fought against private carrier service cuts, while others did; he's taken money from them and now wants buses to have the right to idle around. Which he would have noticed is not required if he ever actually went to a bus terminal in his district.

So-called "investigative journalists" blocking people for daring to question their analyses will never not give me a chuckle. Is it really journalism if your first reaction to an opposing viewpoint challenging your own is to shut them up?

If "expanding bus services to communities across the state" includes having NJT take over the many private carrier routes that never returned after COVID, this is huge. Large swaths of North & Central Jersey have no usable transit outside of weekday commute hours (or even at all) because of this.

Together, we will cut through red tape and make sure we’re fixing our aging roads and bridges, reducing delays on NJ TRANSIT, expanding bus services to communities across the state, and continuing progress on the Gateway Project.

The current private carrier system is broken. The time is ripe for NJT to proactively step in and rebuild what we had, or even better than before. Governor Sherrill, it is time unify all of our state's bus services into the NJT system so we never again have a repeat of the DeCamp situation.

Bergen County is particularly hard-hit, with 4 routes cut to peak-only service, 6 "suspended" since 2020, and 2 defunct routes. Hunterdon County lost all service other than at the Clinton P&R, bar one daily bus from Quakertown via Lambertville & Flemington; there is no longer service to Frenchtown.

The one route that actually saw service "increase" is a fluke; prior to the pandemic it was a Saturday-only express route, which expanded to weekdays in 10/2024. Unfortunately this meant cutting the parallel local service completely, with the remaining route skipping NJ almost entirely via the GSP.

Out of the 34 private carrier routes north & west of the Turnpike, only 1 operates service levels at or better than 1/2020. 17 have severe reductions in service, 6 routes have had all service cut outside weekday peak, 7 are "suspended" entirely, and 3 are defunct because the company folded in 2020.

Wait, that wasn't even intended to be regime change? We did a decapitation strike on Venezuela for the sole purpose of arresting Maduro on narcotics charges? This somehow makes the whole thing even less justified than previously thought possible.

This is notably the same company that was recently caught falsifying public transit bus tracker data on a massive scale in order to run more profitable charters while still being paid for bus runs obligated under contracts.

Broadway IBOA is shutting down next month, with NJ Transit to take over the route. This is the last urban bus route controlled by a private carrier in the state. NJT is now one step closer to achieving ONE STATE, ONE AGENCY.

Minimum wage here is $15.49/hour. I do not see why a 17% higher minimum wage (a minimum wage differential of $2.20 USD per hour) should require a 218% hike in the price of four strips of bacon at a diner. ($5.50 at present)

This post is unavailable.

$6.40 (117% of current pricing) is still only a bit over half of what Tesla is charging. Tesla's bacon pricing is a ripoff even accounting for the minimum wage value differential.

wake up y'all, a newhu just dropped

Rail is not supported yet, but given that rail TVM's do support loading the cards this likely will be a future addition. There's also some weird quirks, like NLR underground fares requiring registering the card like RF cards to get the discount, instead of just loading it onto the card from a TVM.

Nonetheless, this is still far better than the OMNY rollout disasterclass. NJT took its time, and the resulting fare card in its pilot stage is already far more complete than OMNY ever has been. Automatic transfers and being able to pay transfer overrides without cash is huge.

Good news for NJ Transit riders: Courtesy of new programming on some TVM's we now have confirmation that NJT's "FARE-PAY" farecards will be NFC cards like about every other sane place on the planet and not use barcodes or QR codes. Not a fan of the card graphic design or name, though.

NJT's new Customer Advocate is actually a pretty chill guy. 100% recommend showing up to any future customer advocate sessions if you can make them and have genuine feedback. He genuinely wants to learn from us riders, especially if we know anything about the actual root cause of a problem we have.
