Ok. A lot of us were told that you couldn't say that american voters were racist they just had to vote racist on account of the price of gas. So let's see what happens next week.

New from me: The US has faced a higher cost than any other country from the global Hormuz oil shock, with the crisis adding $160 billion to its fuel bill — or $471 per person on average — despite being the world’s largest oil producer.

It's just calendars. All the use cases are calendars.

If anyone would be kind enough to furnish me with some of the other examples of the "CEOs Guide To Robot Parenting" ouevre, I'd be much obliged. I know I've seen at least half a dozen more in tweets or LinkedIn posts.

Oh. I never thought it might have stolen my thesis. How do I check? Is the word chickends out in the world now? (Can't remember if I caught that typo before or after corrections)

They get even more awkward when you say it stole your PhD dissertation and you'll never get a cent for it. The settlement didn't apply to my work.

Found this incredible project at the Green Party conference: Stitch their Names Hundreds of women stitching the names of the tens of thousands of Palestinians murdered by Israel. Red are women, Black are men, Green are kids. www.stitchtheirnamestogether.com

You let someone in when you are speaking to someone who doesn't have English as a first language. (Annoying habit of an otherwise delightful colleague.)

#speirghorm Do you 'let' someone in, or do you 'leave' someone in? Which? and where in Ireland are you from?

But they're using renewables! a) they're not, they're all quietly pivoting to dedicated natural gas plants, built by their oil buddies, b) renewables should be used to power useful shit c) this makes it so that renewables don't displace fossil fuels, they just add to supply for increasing demand

We gotta start referring to data centers by both their mother and father's last names, Spain style. The Microsoft-Chevron data center, the Meta-ExxonMobil data center, and so forth. Absolutely no reason just the tech bros should be taking the heat on this shit

This news is important because all the fucks out there actively attempting to wreck the world want you to think that the work is hopeless and just mitigating the worst case scenario. It's not. Fucking keep going.

We now have rigorous pooled data showing that even without active restoration efforts, cleared rainforest can rebound to 75% of their former species composition and 90% of species diversity within just thirty years. #goodnews

The €1bn spent on fossil fuel sinces April would have put 8kw battery & solar on 100,000 homes buying them energy freedom for 20+ years. The €1bn+ that will be spent over the next few months would bring that to 250,000 homes. What we lack is will and vision

Out for a run yesterday. Saw a guy in a car on his phone at a junction. He was still on it as he turned into the main road. His window was down so I called out "Put your phone away!" Got a thumbs up. Success?

6 months of the year I have my retinas burned out of my head. I also find more and more people just driving along with their full beams on constant. Such is their ignorance, they don't switch them down when they get flashed.

Ok. I've just had my FOURTH incident of finding a spider on my person in the last 2 months. This time it was a giant house spider 😨 Previously, it was false widows. What the hell is going on?

So the guy was trying to pay attention to the meeting, the summary of the meeting and the reply suggestions all at the same time. Not surprised he got flustered and shared the wrong screen.

David Ho@davidho.bsky.social

I was on a group Zoom call where one of the participants was sharing his screen. He accidentally shared the one where Gemini is ingesting our call, summarizing it in realtime, and offering reply suggestions. I didn’t even know that was a thing! So even when talking to a human, it might be a bot.

I see gmail is pretending there are new emails in the Updates and Promotions folder all the time now, on top of freaking out that my storage is 87% full after 23 years. Yeah. I'll get right on that...

A reminder, again, that Ireland has *chosen* not to take regulatory action against this abuse factory, whose office sits in Fenian Street in Dublin. I think this failure to act in the face of clear knowledge is an unforgivable act.

The 5 Simpsons lines I've uttered most off the top of my head 1. Willie hears ya. Willie doesn't care. 2. Do *I* know what rhetorical means?! 3. Like a little Rory Calhoon 4. See you in the car, Millhouse (with an eyebrow wiggle) 5. Ahhh. The hammock district

I don't have to create a profile and sign in to read my book. I don't need to remember a password. My book doesn't send me notifications. If someone next to me is reading a book and they put it down, I can pick it up and read it too without being in their account.

Increasingly convinced that the enduring popularity of books is that they're the one medium left that you buy and then own forever; can loan out, pass on, or sell; and which never become obsolete.

Sorry. No. We're just going to have to fix climate change. My skin is DESTROYED by the office air con. This is IRELAND. A window propped open when it's not raining should be ENOUGH!

So the priest had actual magic powers? Wow. I bet he did a lot for the community... Just the football curse, was it? But he must have healed a lot of sick... No? He only used his power to curse a football team. Just that one time. Sounds bang on for the catholic church in 1951 to be fair.
