Do I know anyone who works/has worked in kitchens, especially as a Line Cook-ish position? I had the audacity to give my MC for my liminal space haunted house book a line cook job and now I need someone to tell me how badly I've messed up ๐Ÿ˜‚

It's release day! ROSEMARY & THYME is live at retailers! Olivia Atwater offers up another gothic fantasy romance, full of dark magic, deceitful faeries, and "witty and nuanced enchantment" (Stephanie Burgis), in the second instalment of the Victorian Faerie Tales. oliviaatwater.com/book/rosemar...

TriCon Halifax is a place for all kinds of creators collaborate & learn from each other, but we also honour three special guests to punctuate our gathering with their knowledge and experience! This year, we are pleased to re-invite Tor editor, @englelaird.bsky.social to our city!

I've been doing this all morning and now I have a list of 65 agents (of varying match vibes) and data entry brain Help

As I'm exploring agent wishlists, it's actually leaving me in pretty high spirits. My manuscript fits pretty closely with a bunch of agents wishlists, and while I know this industry has lots of No ready for me, I'm feeling pretty solid in my foundations

My migraine/headaches start with right shoulder muscles and a feeling of thicknessin the back of my neck It has the intensity of a migraine and triptans work, but boy am I having a hard time believing it's a classic migraine since I have few of the classic symptoms

Once again participating in the rat race of "if I don't work on my book before dawn, people that believe they're entitled to my time and effort with descend upon me like vultures" I am become morning person, drinker of coffee

I did survive this ordeal but there's an extra set of holes hidden up there that no one needs to know about

Resharing this because I still need about $1,100. Iโ€™m so grateful to everyone whoโ€™s already donated and shared. Thank yโ€™all so much! โค๏ธ

Iโ€™m gonna scream. Not only does my appointment next week NOT help with housing, it ALSO doesnโ€™t declare me disabled, which means ANOTHER step in the process. Iโ€™ll be homeless in less than a month, and Iโ€™ll die from my heart condition. Please consider donating. I need $2k. gofund.me/a192a7989

I must be losing my marbles because I'm thinking about spreading myself across three social media platforms again

I want to play a new game but I do *not* know what I want What have you been loving in the last year? Previous loves are - Long Dark - Stardew - Inscryption - Bg3 - Silent Hill f - Layers of Fear

My weekly writer burnout recovery update. All the thoughts I've had and media I've taken in on my road to recovering my love for this industry Liminal Haunted House WIP is coming along nicely, and I'm pleased (but scared) that the first readers have chapters โœจ

Am I, five years after debut, finally ready to stop living like a normal person and give up my Goodreads tracking? I feel like it's the last holdout before I finally admit I don't just get to be a reader anymore, you know?

In related curiousity, what fall/winter traditions do you keep? Mine and Bestie's household don't have kids, and it's been a BAD year, so we want to intentionally make some holiday cheer. We're looking for activities of all energy levels so we can force some found family joy

Cat Rector@catrector.com

Spent a few hours this morning helping my friend's mom prep Christmas baking. It was nice to be involved in a family tradition where the success of the venture didn't hinge on if I could successfully emotionally regulate everyone else My bar is very low, but it makes me very grateful

I love where I live, but the city is two hours away and has all the good book events. I wanna go to all the good book events!

This remains one of my favourite features of our new house. The floating 1975 staircase with metal banister, combined with a set of waterfall lights. The perfect way to navigate in the dark, and so soothing

To celebrate five years of this heartbreaking Norse myth retelling, I've decided to give away a bunch of ebook/audiobook combos! If you're looking to join the people who have threatened to bill me for their therapy, leave a comment! ๐Ÿ’•

Holy shit this book is five years old. How did that happen. It's also making me question my concept of time and space because what do you mean I published six books since October 2021. I genuinely thought I've been doing this longer ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿคฃ

Accessibility to publishing a book, local stores that sell worldwide cuisine, (some) rural conservative towns that are growing away from hate, women and afab people sticking up for themselves, FEMININE RAGEEEEE

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But whatโ€™s something that youโ€™ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Also if you need some good news beamed to your inbox each week, Hank and John Green run a newsletter called We're Here that gives out good news, compiles stories from around the internet, and asks for tidbits from readers This week's just went out werehere.beehiiv.com/subscribe

I sent my first eight chapters of Haunted House WIP to it's first readers today and it occurs to me that I'll need a line cook to read it as well ๐Ÿคฃ I need this woman to be the real deal, for better or worse

Accidentally got up at 5am but that does mean I've edited three chapters and done some trad pub research by 9:40am. I should probably like... move my body or something. Also I'm playing cookie clicker I don't know why

Sometimes I use one screen to play BG3 with the boys and the other to check out query tracker It's fine, I have 500 hours and they have 30, I only tab in to find them in trouble sometimes

Part of keeping my soul excited for writing is podcasts. This episode on algorithms didn't exactly solve anything for me, but it did make me feel less alone. I've been struggling to balance my writing hours vs marketing hours, and it's validating to hear Victoria Aveyard having the same issue ๐Ÿ˜…

Like genuinely I'd have twice as many books out if I wasn't yelling HEY LOOK AT ME on social media all the time

I got back here just in time for the best feature on the planet. I have links in my bio, I am unstoppable

I'm deeply disappointed that my afternoon caffeine continues to not actually be helpful. This year I've noticed that I get sleepy, try to have a coffee or tea, and notice my entire head does not enjoy the results. But I want a boost ๐Ÿ˜ญ Am I a naps person now??

It occurs to me that I have a number of new followers since I was hanging out here last. In the spirit of a new introduction, hey! I'm Cat. I'm from Nova Scotia and I write darker fiction about queer characters. I love cathartic stories and I'm currently working on a haunted house novel โœจ

Cat Rector@catrector.com

Hi! I'm Cat and I write queer dark fantasy and horror about (often bi) adults who fuck up a lot! My books handle hard topics and TW are available on my website (catrector.com) but I've also whipped up this handy chart to get you started! Grab your copies at catrector.carrd.co!

I need a reading chair for this new house. There's nowhere for me to sink into and disappear under the blankets the way I want. Though I'm half tempted to crawl into my nephew's tent and hide there

It's nice to be back at it again โœจ Two chapters of edits on my Haunted House WIP this morning and maybe I'll even fit in another ๐Ÿ‘€ TW for emotionally abusive shithead dads

Can*Con book haul! I swore I was coming home with fewer books than I arrived with but I failed that pretty hard ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜… I couldn't resist grabbing as many signed books from friends and respected authors as I could! My TBR is toppling but it's so worth it

My daytime triptan bought me a two hour nap, two very rested hours of activity, and then a really blah evening. Time for another at 8pm and praying I'll have a nice 6am wakeup. But not being in blistering pain all day was a nice change ๐Ÿคฃ

All this cozy horror discourse out here. Bra, sometimes I just want to keep my inner baseline without discovering a new terror and I think that's kind of nice actually

Now that I'm dusting off this account again, welcome to my weekly writers journey update while I recover my passion and push toward the next book. After two near-death family emergencies this year, I needed to reconnect to my craft. Here's the Can*Con edition:

This post is late but I am BEAT. Con weekend is no joke, and I'm barely human even though it's Wednesday. Pics are a tomorrow post, but thank you to everyone who spent time with me during Can*Con. It means so much. I can't wait to take this energy and turn it into more books โœจ

This morning we're playing "if it doesn't subside in ten minutes I'll take the triptan" because I don't want to be knocked out so hard I'm part of the cosmos for four hours today but I think that's where we're heading

Reading the Astarion book was a speck of joy in a vast wasteland of a summer, and bless the authors who toil to give us one more chance to live in those worlds

Kate Tell-Tale Heartfield@kateheartfield.com

There is a doofus currently arguing here that no "creative talent" would choose to write tie-ins, and since I just did a panel this weekend on why creative talents choose to write IP, here are a few reasons. Non-financial reasons, for fun and because frankly it usually doesn't pay that well.

Montreal Worldcon is being pitched to me by friends and colleagues I'm reading up on it and doing some budgeting but as a super uninformed person, why do YOU go to WorldCon? Tips, tricks, best practices are all welcome while I do my math ๐Ÿ™‚โ€โ†•๏ธ
