"A full assessment of the record in the East Potomac case sure seems to suggest that the problematic behavior has come from the government, and not from Judge Reyes. The real-world stakes may be modest. But the institutional stakes are substantial—and they’re growing by the day." Me in "One First":

Building border barriers in Big Bend National Park threatens to destroy the landscape, disrupt wildlife migration, and deplete scarce groundwater. We're working with a broad coalition of environmental, conservation, and civil rights allies to stop it.

After using bikeshare/rental bikes in 2 different European countries (with much better cycling infrastructure) earlier this month, it is nice to come back home and remember how much I love this trusty steed for rides around town.

I briefly considered riding the CityLink Purple home after an evening meeting in Catonsville, but was rudely reminded that bus only runs once every ~45 minutes. When are we going to fund @mta.maryland.gov so it can be a functioning transit agency instead of whatever joke this is.

Most prescient, clear/eyed work of writing I’ve read on reorg. Read it. Then act. “Call your senators. Call your representative. Not next week or later. Now. Tell them this is not a reorganization — it’s the destruction of a federal agency by executive fiat and that Congress must intervene.”

Amidst everything else, the Trump regime has quietly killed off the U.S. Forest Service 🌲 “One hundred and ninety-three million acres of your national forests… just handed, on a silver platter, to the people who’ve spent their entire careers trying to destroy it.” www.hatchmag.com/articles/tru...

When Bad Bunny scaled a utility pole during his Super Bowl show, it was more than a stunt. His performance highlighted Puerto Rico's frequent power cuts, which have been exacerbated by energy privatization. We're fighting for an equitable and just clean energy system for all Puerto Ricans.

earthjustice.orgWhy Was Bad Bunny Singing on Top of a Broken Utility Pole at the Super Bowl?Bad Bunny’s 13-minute performance at the big game was an ode to Puerto Rico — and its energy woes.

Book 1 was The Boys in the Boat, the unsung story of the 1936 US Olympic rowing team. It seamlessly blends a coming of age narrative set in the Depression-era PNW with descriptions of rowing strategy/philosophy and the Nazi’s use of propaganda around the Olympics. Highly recommend!

Book 2: The Fellowship of the Ring. A classic whose movie adaptation I have watched many times without reading the source material. A delightful read full of nuance and additional storytelling not captured in the film. (Feat: My spider plant coming home with me while my office moves location).

Two days ago it was Elissa Slotkin. Last week it was Jerome Powell. Before that, Mark Kelly. Weaponizing the justice system against your opponents is an authoritarian tactic. The only person not being investigated for the shooting of Renee Good is the federal agent who shot her.

Breaking news: The Justice Department has issued subpoenas for Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey as part of an investigation alleging that they are impeding federal law enforcement officers’ abilities to do their jobs in the state.

The big problem with NEPA reform -- which I'd like to see NEPA reformers grapple with a bit more -- is that if you open the thing up, most of the legislators doing the "reforming" are hostile to it & just want to get rid of env. review entirely. It's not a good-faith process.

There is a better way to travel between major US cities. It's not that we can't build high speed rail here... It's been a deliberate choice of political will, car industry lobbying and regulatory hurdles designed to make it seem impossible... But it is indeed a choice. www.cnn.com/interactive/...

cnn.comWhat if the United States had high-speed rail?High-speed rail is a proven alternative to gridlocked highways and overcrowded airports. CNN has reimagined a faster, more connected future for US commuters.

For most of the last decade, our media and political class has panicked over the idea that progressives were intruding on free speech rights by loudly criticizing people with unpopular views. Anyway, here's far-right federal paramilitaries advertising that they'll rip down pro-immigrant messages.

Coal pollution has poisoned the Diné and other Tribal communities for decades. Now the Trump administration and their allies in Congress are pushing a bill that expands mining and short-circuits environmental reviews. This must be stopped.

In the sheer absurdity of the moment, I hope folks pause and contemplate what great news this is for Oregon. Beavers are “nature’s engineers,” with the awesome ability to foster watershed-scale ecological resilience. So pleased with the good work we’ve been able to do here!!!

We have to start taking the crises of biodiversity loss and ecological destruction seriously.
