separating from their communities when they are no longer infectious is unnecessary, especially w/new, highly effective regimens. That they often have to pay for their own food & medical supplies while hospitalized is cruel!

Thx to @lancetrespirmed.bsky.social and Ed. Ari Colosio for the rapid publication of endTB-Q & podcast. Resistant forms of TB are only more likely w/US abdication of its role in global health. Trial results remind us of the dangers of one-size-fits-all approaches in TB & all infectious diseases.

The heartbreak abounds in every direction, but it's so devastating to lose young people to HIV when we know how to prevent those deaths. We are now witnessing the horrific impacts of the U.S. Government's cuts to global health. magazine.hms.harvard.edu/articles/wor...

Science is not partisan. The research funded by USG in Montana & around the world, helps Americans directly and indirectly through innovation and economic benefits.

This post is unavailable.

In addition to destroying the withering social safety net in the US, the Bill passed by the House: 1) impedes the judicial branch’s ability to hold govt actors in contempt when they defy judicial order; 2) halts state protections against AI-generated election lies.

This is nuts. More manipulation & destruction of human health advances—especially in infectious diseases. Who ever heard of “expiring” opportunities because they hadn’t previously expired?

Jeremy Berg@jeremymberg.bsky.social

The depth of inconsistency and disingenuousness in the current administration is staggering. They use the pretense that national security drives policy at NIH while it does NOT matter in 47’s Defense Dept or his own crypto & other personal business transactions ½

And, lest we fall for the false claims about national security as motivation, domestic subawards are next. This fits all too neatly with the plan to kill NIH by slow-walking spending.

Deaths from heart disease down 75%, that’s NIH. Deaths from stroke down 75%, that’s NIH. HIV/AIDS no longer a death sentence, that’s NIH. 99% of FDA approved drugs in the last decade, that’s NIH. Please show this video to anyone who doesn’t understand why the NIH is so important.

Yesterday KS, today FL. Where next? Without a robust system for care & research in US & abroad, we can be sure that TB will turn up everywhere. #TBSky

Another example of “cut-first, evaluate-after” destruction fomented by 47. It will lead to more deaths now & later, waste taxpayer funds spent on lifesaving research, and delay future progress. Like health care, health research stopped (& restarted) on a whim has serious consequences. 1/1

NIH to suspend funds for research abroad as it overhauls policy - An exclusive story from the Nature News team This NIH move threatens thousands of collaborative projects on infectious diseases, cancer and more 🧪 #AcademicSky #MedSky @nature.com www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Research conducted exclusively in US does not inherently better match priorities. Significant research infrastructure exists outside US, & overlap between conditions (e.g., chronic disease & HIV) is important, conducting research in places w/higher disease burdens brings results to US faster.

Informative & chilling explanation of strategy to destroy NIH. #HandsoffNIH pls let ur members of congress know that it’s not ok to stop cancer research, write to local newspapers. Expose these lethal plans.

Of course we need to be clever how to spend the limited resources, but never lost the perspective: patients are persons with dreams and should be the center of care! We have the tools, and we know what we need to address as a society (social determinants), so we should be the cure! #EndTB (4/4)
